Hi dubblebubble
Well done for posting.
I don't know about getting the creditors to reduce the amount owed because of mental health aspects, but they will sometimes accept a reduced amount in a full and final settlement. If your debts have been passed to a DCA, they may settle for 25%-50% and the original creditor 50%-75%.
I suggest you start a new thread and you'll get lots of advice for saving tips and how to make sure your budget has no surprises. There are a few other techniques for finding out if a debt is actually enforcable, then there's the reclaiming of bank charges...After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Well done dubblebubble for admitting you have a gambling problem. So much easier once it is shared and can be dealt with.
Everyone that is a regular poster here are brilliant, they are all so supportive and give some great help and advice. As you can see from my posts I'm not actually the gambler but the support I have received is invaluable.
Good luck0 -
Welcome Dubble
I've not tried writing off due to mental-health. However, whilst I still falter, I am slowly but surely getting to grips with the 20K+ that I ran up on Gambling. (Down to 11K, and due to be DF by August!)
Just drop a post here when you feel tempted, or need a bit of random support.

Hi Dubble, welcome to the thread. Like others have said you will get support and understanding here. I'm not sure you would get debts reduced on mental health issues otherwise you could argue that a shopoholic has mental health issues etc...
It's a long hard slog paying off the debt but even if it takes 50 years its a reminder of why you dont want to gamble again and some people take that as a positive thing.
You've done so well in stopping and putting blocks on the computer. Many won't do this as they wont accept they have no control and inevitably gamble again. Feel free to post on here when you are feeling down, alone, or happy because you've acheived something.
TB. Glad to hear you excited about your holiday
Sounds like your ex is having some real problems, but remember, they are his problems. You've done all you can to help him and need to stay strong and focused for you and your lo.
Hope everyone is well xxLast bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0 -

Dwelling on "what could have been". Almost as bad as being tempted to gamble that. I'll put it down to a bad week i think.
Probably just as well i don't have any accounts open or i may have been tempted. No idea what on, but probably gambling just for the sake of gambling. Definately in a funk right now.
Not going to do it though. I've decided not to gamble until i'm debt free - then i just need to find another milestone, deposit for house then pay off mortgage then save for funeral...

Hi George. We all get days like that. I often wonder what could have been. I was told to wonder "what could have been" fi i'd carried on gambling. It's not a nice thought. try it xxxLast bet : 26th Oct 2006:j Debt free 25th Feb 2008:j Living "my" dream:T0

hi everyone
george i get many days like that, especially recently and its getting me down, how much ive wasted, what we could have done with it. 6 1/2 years to go!!
been tempted to gamble also, especially on the footy at weekend, thoughts like " well its only a few quid, it wont hurt", if i start again one day it will only lead to the same place and thats another 20,000 gone. so no way am i having that 1st bet
hi dubble, most of us have been where you are, its not nice but it gets easier. put things in place to stop yourself gambling, maybe get to a meeting of GA, come one here and have a whinge or look for support.
cantcope is spot on, 'what could have been if we'd carried on' doesnt bear thinking about
keep strong everyone, we dont need to gamble
best wishes0 -
Thanks guys. I know it'll always be in the back of my mind rearing it's head from time to time, but this is the first time i've really dwelled on it and not just pushed it aside.
I would hope that if i still had an active account i wouldn't have been tempted, but i'm not totally sure. Just need to keep pushing on i guess.
Glad everyone else doesn't seem to have any dilemas this week.

So how's everyone doing? And how are the OH's doing too?
Thought i'd ask before the weekend to make sure the bookies and casino's have a slow weekend. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
