What a great guy. He'll be much missed, I'm sure. No idea how we'll make up our own minds without his polite and constructive feedback.

Oh dear, the carolt and !!!!!!? tag-team force another poster off the forum. His crime? He had an opposing viewpoint to them. Interesting that they have the gaul to say that trulysaintly was biased. Oh the irony! Both are desperate for houses to drop back to 1990 levels so that they can afford to buy and will stop at nothing to talk down the market and bully anyone who has a more optimistic opinion.

It's sad that they believe that they can have any impact on the housing market by making negative posts on an internet forum.

It's sad that the powers that be and the more established (and more respected) members of the housing forum allow them to get away with this time and again.

The other piece of irony on this thread is carolt's "A certain poster likes to pick as many fights as possible". Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Carol could pick a fight in a monastery and if she starts getting the worst of it, in swings !!!!!!? to help out.

Sorry - I'll be sure not to make reasoned counterpoints and observations in the future in case they upset someone who's blustering away with 'financial advice' that's likely to leave anyone who listens to it in a fair degree of fiscal pain......

I must say NDG will be disappointed - I was previously accused of being in a tag-team with her. :rotfl:

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

Some people would say that perhaps you need to be in a tag-team with someone because you don't have the wits to fight on your own.

    I wouldn't though. I think you do.

No. It's sad that you think they think they can. The forum just reflects what is going on, a useful place to gather and air views, sometimes opposing, sometimes funny, sometimes heated. I suspect nothing anyone ever posts here will make one bit of difference to house prices.

Unless of course I were to reveal a piece of information that I came by this morning. But if I did that then the whole charade would come toppling down. So I wont.

Lets not forget most people prefer thier own bricks and mortar over pensions as a wealth store, so as soon as rates take a small drop people will return once again to march with the property pied piper.

Not with headlines like this they won't:

  • The public have no confidence in property because all they are told is that prices will continue to fall - regardless of the fact that this only matters if you are looking to sell again in 12-18 months....and how many people do that??

    (1) I honestly don't believe this 12 - 18 months thing. I think it could be a lot longer

    (2) People's lives change. They get fired or made redundant. They split up or get pregnant. They get ill or their mothers do and they want to move home. Life's what happens while you are making other plans.

  • Don't have a go at me just because my opinion is different - I have dealt with mortgages and the housing market day in, day out for the last 13 years so I happen to think that I can give my views from an informed viewpoint - many journos are lazy and look for soundbites that suit - bad news sells papers after all.

13 years' expeirence is valuable. But that is, since 1995, not at all in a falling market. You need to look outside your own personal history of dealing with finances.

snaps up more at a lower price.....

You've used the verb "to snap up" many times on this thread. I don't like the use of it as a phrasal verb in relation to housing. Partly because it's just massively over-used on the boards, but mostly because it implies a liquidity in the housing market which isn't there.
