Going for a walk to the library. Mean you can switch off the heating and lights. No petrol to use to get there and you're getting exercise. Most libraries have internet access and reading areas with comfy seating.

If you are really frugal (or bored lol) I make my own envelopes and stuff at night sometimes, and do the mending :T

And spend an hour online, which is more of a problem than the tv...

Hmmm.... I always have plenty of projects on the go to keep myself busy in the evenings. But the reality is that after cooking dinner, eating and clearing up again I usually lack the energy and end up online for an hour or so!
But we are now getting the neighbours interested in playing Mah Jongg, with the idea to do that together once a week alternating between their house and ours.

As "Dungeons & Dragons" players (sword & sorcery tabletop war games, for the uninitiated) we sometimes sit and paint the little pewter figues used by us and our friends. We recently took over a whole lot of them from a friend who sadly died, and his widow wanted them out of her house, and many of them are in need of repair/repainting.

I do scrapbooking in the evenings-although if you don't control your spending in this it can be very UN-os!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • If anyone has any tips (clean ones!) on how to drag their husband away from the TV in the evenings I'd like to hear them! I can easily find things to do instead of watching TV (reading, cross stitch, knitting, sudoku) but apparently he can't!

Turning off all lights and going to bed early. :D

When I lived on my own I ALWAYS did this in the winter - too scared to turn on the heating in case I couldn't pay the bill and my bed was the only place I could get warm!
