  • Every time one of these MCE adverts comes up I think, oh I'll try and register with them... and every time (well, this is the third time it's happened), I get the error message saying there is already an application lodged with my email address. I must have applied ages ago when I first applied with the others - but I've heard nothing. It must be over a month now. Do they usually take this long to let you know if you're accepted?

Got a slight problem with that audit report from yesterday! OK, first up, I am a complete computer numpty so if anyone can help please answer in idiot speak!!

I received the email with the excel report... but I'm on a Mac so I couldn't open it into Excel - so I opened it into Numbers, which seems to be the Mac version of Excel. I completed the report, saved it, then added it as an attachment when I replied to the email.

Now I've just had a call saying I have sent it as a zip file! What the beep's a zip file???

Can anyone talk me through how to fix this, or do I just have to do the whole thing again on a pc?

I've sent you a PM, send me the data and the excel file and I will input for you?

That seems to be the only workable thing here, and I know they are keen on timescales!

A zip file is where if the file is too big, you zip it to compress it and it becomes smaller, the receiver then has to open it up (windows xp / vista comes with a standard unzipper) to get the file.

Not sure why Mac Numbers won't work, normally they are pretty compatible across the board with Excel.

Sorry Scaredy, I'm a numpty too. Maybe L-t-d will be along soon, he's good at this kind of stuff...

Thanks - just wanted to let you know I managed to sort it eventually - ended up doing it again on a pc.

If anyone can advise me on how to do it on the Mac, for future reference (assuming they ever give me any more work after this palaver!) I'd appreciate it, but it's no longer a matter of urgency.
  • Ah ok, I think that the Mac version should work with Excel?

When you are saving it in Mac, check the drop down box below the save file name, as that will tell you what format you are saving it in, whether it be a ms excel compatible etc.

Thanks. Your explanation makes it sound like there should have been no problems opening the file at the other end, so maybe I did something wrong. I'm not a numbers (with a small n) person, I normally use the word processing bit and that seems to transfer itself from the Mac to the pc ok, so I assumed that Numbers (capital n) would automatically send the document in a suitable format.

When I pressed 'save' it just asked for a document title, and where I wanted to save it. I just chose to put it in the file with all my other MS stuff. Was that wrong? Maybe I should have stuck it somewhere else. Anyway, it didn't ask anything about a format.
  • I've got a supermarket job on tomorrow, a burger job on Saturday (it's round the corner so don't mind, and a retail electrical job on Sunday (again not far from where I live). Got absolutely nothing for next week as hubby is off and I'm banned (unless I can sneak one in when he's not watching!!). May go and have a look if anything has been listed but I doubt it x

I wouldn't bother. Waste of time, they don't narrow the visits down any further than "Country". ie, I live in Kent and get shown jobs in Manchester.

So I'm probably being really thick, but how do I accept a job for RE?
I've got a calendar showing with all the days greyed out, except today which is in yellow.
There's no option I can see though to select any day, even today.
Is it a fault or am I being stupid?
