I think it's a great idea to group together if you can - less money and wastage.

I've just taken my first delivery of River Nene's fruit and veg box (£13.50).

I think it is good value for money as the fruit tastes fantastic - just shared an apple and nectarine with my 3 year old DD who approves wholeheartedly!!

They substituted bananas for oranges as they have had banana shortage this week. This is a bit of a shame as we eat loads of bananas and I will have to make a trip to shops, but I guess you have to be slightly flexible anyway when you want local and organic.

Got a big bag of chard - never had it before. Does anyone know what I should do with it?

Chard is lovely cooked with double cream and a pinch of nutmeg. You just put ina pan and reduce down. Not for dieting though!

For the chard chop up the stems + the leaves and stirfry them with a little garlic; a little soy sauce goes well as well.

The bananas were too ripe, I told him I would have made banana bread with them!
I freeze anything I think we wont' use up in time, but rarely have to. And soup uses up veg well, too.

Never had the fruit + veg box; usually get the veg but because I can't grocery shop we decided to get the fruit this time; think it will continue.

Just added 2 kohlrabi to the list in the OP; think they were added by accident!

Hi jo1972....I've been having trouble finding a box scheme in my area too.. I tried Bigbarn but they couldn't really come up with anything.
Then, yesterday, I got a leaflet through the door from a company just staring a new box scheme round here, so I am trying them out next week.
If you are in this area (Cheshire) I can give you the details. Where are you?

    Hi all,

Am considering getting veg/fruit box from a local company but don't really know what's a good deal or not? Do most people get theirs from local farms, did you contact them yourselves? I have seen some farms on the net but they are not very local, I would like to support more locally than get it delivered 30 miles. Should I just ring some and ask? What do people normally pay for a box?

    thanks in advance!
