Someone with ferrets suggested to me that vinegar is great for "neutralising" smells so the dog cant smell it...if it works for ferrets which stink to high heaven should work for dogs lol...I have no idea how long it takes for the smell of vinegar to go away lol.
I'm not sure if you meant your dog HAS fleas or if you just want to deter them. If its the latter get your dog on Frontline or something similar, wash his bedding and your household soft furnishings regularly and hoover....lots. Not sure about lavender, but I'm pretty sure insects dislike the smell of lemon and peppermint essential oil, and camphor too but camphor smells horrid so you'd want to avoid that. Try putting pet garlic in his food or giving him it in tablet form...you shouldnt smell it in his breath (so they say lol) but the fleas will smell it on him.0 -
I can definitely recommend Shake n Vac. It seems to work wonders for my carpet!! I can never smell dog smells in my house, but I've noticed it in other houses, and so I always get paranoid that mine stinks and that I'm used to the smell!! Pre dog, I used to vacumn once a week, now I vacumn every other day. I guess it's the best way to keep on top of the doggie smells

Be careful with shake n vac-I have seen lots of dogs with contact dermatitis after the use of it-if it doesnt irritate dogs skin then thats fine obviously
Best thing with urine to get rid of smell completely is to wash with biological washing powder (does need to be bio-you need the enzymes to break down the urine) then finish with a spray of surgical spirit-it gets rid of the smell to us and removes any smell of urine to the pet so they dont use that spot again (and its a lot cheaper than the sprays you get in pet shops which i found pretty useless when my cat decided he wanted to use the spare room as a litter tray :mad:0 -
So pleased all seems well:j0

i'm glad things worked out ok.
by leaving it for that long in the future, you might not be so lucky. something like urinary tract crystals can kill male animals in 48 hours. not eating & drinking is a sign of this. that could have been the case.Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044! All pet owners have a bit of a sixth sense when it comes to their own pets, and can sense when their pet is not his/her usual self. When in doubt, please take said pet to the vet asap. As an example, my dog is extremely food oriented, and one day last year he didn't eat his breakfast. He still hadn't ate any by lunchtime, and the final test came when I was sat eating a bag of crisps, and he wasn't sitting at my feet drooling!! I knew something was wrong, took him to the vets, and turns out he had some kind of infection. Easily treated, but I would not have wanted to wait any longer.

Hi emmalancs.
Glad to read your pup is on the mend :j:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Neutadol do a carpet 'shake and vac' thing which is really good and does work"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0
