Would it be too intrusive to ask for that weblink?

Not an expert, but like you my money's on your husband being the problem. It's even worse than you think though - forgetting the lack of balance in the diet, I bet he didn't check that spagbol for onions (likewise, she'd have eaten them if they were in the stirfry).

If he has to feed her something to make himself feel special, why not have a set meal/snack that he does. For example, our girl gets a dentastick at 8pm and really looks forward to it because it's tasty, regular and the last thing that she eats in the day.

Aside from that, regular times and food down for 20 minutes only. If she doesn't eat, she goes hungry. If you still have trouble, consider changing food. Ours was indifferent to her Beta (I used to break that 20 min rule because she ate so little :) ), but loves Burns.

Teaching her to behave around food is going to be easier now than in a year's time, so you might want to nip the bin thing in the bud now. Again, hubby's lack of boundries won't be helping there.

Well yes it has to be said that he's a sucker for the 'doggy eyes'. That used to be my trick though it now seems I have some tough competition.:rotfl:

Over the last 2 days she's had no extra's at all. I cleared all the dinner stuff away before it could go anywhere:rolleyes: yesterday. I've been home all day today and just put food down at the normal times.

She's actually just scoffed all her tea as soon as I put it down. So more hubby training on my part I think

Poor pup.. I wouldn't want to eat dog food either..

I think a little of this and that in moderation isn't such a bad thing, I should think it's probably good for an all round diet. I can't imagine dog food has the highest quality ingredients in.

Pasta is ok, dog food has pasta in it, and rice sometimes.. Nothing wrong with that.

As long as she is happy and a good healthy weight, then I would just let things take their course.

I have two very healthy dogs and they always get bits and pieces, plenty of exercise and lot's of fun :)

Although, tomatoes and real chocolate are a no no..

    hiya,

waht kind of breed is she?
which usual dog food do you give her?

honestly i will bet anything on it that she will like felix with some whole wheat mixer biscuits,
my dog is very very picky with her food loves her felix and also has my OH leftovers ( well he saves her a bit) but shes very well trained and always waits untill gives,
    loves bread, sausages, tuna, potatoes,
she loves the pedigree teeth sticks but any other pedigree brand will make her sick.

even tho your hubby is giving her tipbits she should still be hungry for her own main meal,
when my step kids were staying with us they were forever giving our dog daft things like crisps and all sorts & she woudnt eat so i put her dinner in the kitchen & half shut the door (holding it so i could see though) till she gave in and ate some, only took a few mins!

    hope this helps! :)

I think it's the breeder - the puppy is still with it's Mum so it might be really cruel to take it away from her now - I don't want to take a puppy home that's going to be really upset but then a friend said that that's life and she'll get used to it.

She hasn't had any vaccinations because she hasn't left the farm but I rang a vets who said that this isn't too unusual and they can do the course for £24 so not too bad. She's not KC registered but I'm not really bothered about that and she is for sale at half the price of other border's I've been looking at - also she's black and very pretty.

Thanks for all your advice - the thing is I know if we go on Sunday I'm gonna fall in love - I'll let you know how I get on :j

    Oh dear oh dear!

It may be usual for idiots not to vaccinate a puppy that arrived due to an accidental mating of their !!!!!. But these are breeders who do it so much they have a website advertising the fact - I too would like to see that. It is just totally unacceptable for them not to have had it vaccinated. Their excuse that it hasn't left the farm yet is totally inadiquate.

But what worries me more is have they wormed it (I mean with a veterinary strength wormer)? I doubt it, and I doubt that the mother was wormed either. Do you want to bring something home that will threaten the health of you and your family because if its worm infestation?

Seriously, do not touch this with a barge-pole. It is not KC registered, it is of dubious breeding and yet they are asking half what a "proper" border terrier costs. This could well be a puppy farm (they are not going to show evidence of this in the website) and the fact that they show you a border terrier !!!!! does not mean that's its mum. It could even be stolen.

If you're in the mood for love, go down to the rescue shelter and choose a pup there. There are hundreds being dumped every week. They will cost you less money, and will have had a better start in life.

And contact the RSPCA about this case. They need to do some digging. Not that they will because they are generally toothless.

some really good advice on this thread already.
I'm just thinking about what will happen once you get it home, once it's vaccinated they can't go out for another 10 days thats presuming you can get it to the vets straight away - so the dogs going to be kept inside, it'll be itching to get out and I can imagine if my dogs were kept in at around 7 months for 2 weeks they would be very hyper. Could be quite stressful unless you've got a garden the size of a farm.
Also, even if it's been kept with it's mother, the dog may be very wary of other dogs/pups/adults - puppies are best socialised with other dogs and people around 3/4 months. If you have loads of time and patience this can be worked on but I would find it hard if you have kids also especially a 3yr old (I have a 3yr old and I would find it hard).
I know some breeders who keep their dogs on farms/kennels but because they aren't kept in the house it means they aren't really house trained so this one may not be!
Just some more points for you to ponder - as if you don't have enough to think about - good luck with whatever you decide to do.

That's what my Mum said - they have a website address which doesn't look like a puppy farm

No one wanting to make money would shout about being a puppy farm or come anywhere close to describing what horrendous places they are. This puppy has had absolutely no veterinary care and could well be very sick.
You buy the puppy, another one takes its place. The cycle continues. More dogs are born into misery.

Would you consider a rescue border terrier? - http://allbreedsrescue.googlepages.com/border-terriers

I know you want this to be genuine, but don't let your desire blind you to the reality of the situation. If you want to rehome a dog, this is not the way to go.
