The heat in Turkey

Go to holiday truths website, turkey forum. There is a sticky thread where people who live there are posting daily weather temps. It IS that hot.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I can't understand why anybody would want go to Turkey or other countries in the Med during the hot Summer period. Yes, I'm fully aware of the School holidays. April-May or September-October is a far better time to visit. In the Spring, everything's (normally) green and full of flowers and temps are pleasant. The only minus is the sea water temp. In the Autumn the temp is tolerable once again and the sea is lovely and warm. However the land is brown and dried out. Another reason to avoid Summer, if you can, is the resorts are much less busy and you're more likely to get a good discount on your holiday.0

You will still sweat, waterproof sun cream won't stop you you sweating:rotfl:
But if you can keep some sun cream on your skin, it will stop you getting awful sunburn.0 -
We cant go in spring or autumn and we go to a small, uncrowded resort. I would rather go to Turkey in summer than not at all.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Totally agree the best time for Turkey, Cyprus or Egypt is autumn.
I was a nutter booking Sharm in June/July, if I were going again it would be Oct/Nov.
For Turkey & Cyprus late September.
Better AFTER summer than before, is because the sea is still warm from Summer, in spring it hasn't warmed up fully.0 -

Yes it has couple of years a go, people were dying and they were the locals.
It's not that hot thought really unless your an eeejit and sit out in it.
It's a very dry heat so doesn't feel as uncomfortable as say a UK summer of only 25c
Stay hydrated, lay off the alcohol, dress in white, where large brimmed hats - the straw type are best as they let heat escape from your head.
The peak midday sun out there is more 10-4 not 11-3.
Take the first few days very easy.
and Have a great holiday!0 -

Waterpoof sunb loations don't work that way! They don't stop you sweating, they just don't lose their effectivness as quickly as non-waterproof products.
To add, just because it says it's water proof - still apply it regularly.
Also take loads with you - it's very expensive out there!
no longer is turkey "cheap" too many English people going over and when buying something saying "Wow isn't that cheap!" they soon upped the prices!
Still a bargain to be had though if you haggle.0 -

I should have said that:o
I don't believe there is ANY waterproof or sweatproof sun cream, but the waterproof stuff will stick a bit more. BUT KEEP APPLYING.
I agree with you about it being a different heat, much more comfortable than the UK.
Have you been to Egypt? It makes the med seem humid, its soooooo dry.0 -

Watch your luggage weight (especially coming back, they are bu66ers at Dalaman).
Also Dalaman airport is mega expensive, so make sure you eat before you leave to return & bring drinks with you.0
