I don't believe anyone has ever been a citizen of Northern Ireland.

Nor is it really a country; it's neither a state nor a nation.

Correct Marty. Technically, N.Ireland is simply a region like Scotland, England and Wales. It's part of a much larger country, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and N.Ireland.

I feel Northern Ireland is a country and we are unique as we are the only country in the world to have 3 different governments (UK, Ireland and USA):D

:rotfl: At times that's true, it's like wee have 3 different governments.

Because only 6 of the Ulster counties are in Northern Ireland, the other 3 are in the Irish Republic, so that wouldn't be accurate.

The old 9 county Ulster only exists within sporting bodies. Technically, it's territorial and political reference within the UK, no longer excists since the Republic of Ireland opted out of the union, and it's territorial and political reference within the Republic, has ceased since they changed articles 2 + 3 of the Irish constitution during the Belfast Agreement negotiations.

That's my rant over, back to money saving:rotfl:

Thanks bribrian & Pretani, but I can't help thinking Northern Ireland or N.I. is a lot easier to say and write than the alternatives as you'd always be having to explain.

But there is no six county Ulster, and when people use the term to refer to Northern Ireland, they're simply incorrect.
