Correct Marty. Technically, N.Ireland is simply a region like Scotland, England and Wales. It's part of a much larger country, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and N.Ireland.

Thanks bribrian & Pretani, but I can't help thinking Northern Ireland or N.I. is a lot easier to say and write than the alternatives as you'd always be having to explain.

But there is no six county Ulster, and when people use the term to refer to Northern Ireland, they're simply incorrect.
