IME items listed in the local rag sell very easily, provided the price is right.

Better than Ebaying as there is no packaging, trips to the PO and commissions paid.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • I don't think it was the fact you'd stolen milk once that put people off. I think it was because you claimed you weren't a criminal, but had stolen. Or at least that's how I interpreted what people were saying.

I work in an office with a fax machine. I know how annoying they are (spent 20 mins yesterday trying to send one 20 page fax) and one of those spawns of the devil will never find its way into my home ;)

Rizla I enjoyed reading your OP - thanks very much. I wouldn't do the advert thing but only because I don't have time!

It's a shame the holier than thou team have arrived to demolish the friendly, helpful aim of this thread but there you go, it happens (and more so on MSE these days!).

I would agree with that. Now anyone that knows me could tell you that as a retail worker my view of shoplifters isn't exactly a liberal one, but I actually hold them in a higher regard then certain customers who feel they can treat staff however they want because at least they acknowledge that what they're doing is wrong. The idea that somebody is trying to justify actions that combine to cost the average family (2 adults, 2 kids) over £200 each year, it's probably fortunate it was said on here and not in person because it I find that really offensive.

As far as his money making idea goes, it's effectively what Weatherspoons do. They get the short dated drinks from the manufacturers and sell them at an inflated price that's still lower than the standard retail price. Supermarkets have only reduced the things to clear them.

I'm not entirely convince by the whole returning it policy, but if supermarkets are going to have these policies they are there to be exploited, and I know from experiance that they will have a sale or return arrangement with various suppliers (bread and sandwiches spring to mind).

I think it's a good idea. In all my local papers they have a 'bargain' section for goods under £100 which is free to list in. The problem with this however, is that you wouldn't be guaranteed the ad would run in time for you to get your money back if you didn't sell.
  • Yes I also think its a good idea. Not going to get into a huge debate about pinching a pint of milk hardly a huge offence in the big scheme of things.

I would have no problem returning stuff back to Tescos that didn't sell......how much profit do they make per year??!!

If you need the money to live, things take on a whole new perspective.

My mother often sold on gifts that were given to us children by well meaning people. She needed the money to make ends meet and we had managed without the thing before it was given so she didn't see why not.

I have noticed things are quite seasonal on ebay and people will jump to buy those things without checking the online shops first. For example holiday stuff like camping equipment and pet feeders .

You often see poundland items for sale on ebay for anything up to £5.

Fighting Talk. WOW! That scares me!!

Tell me where you are, my friend and I will be VERY happy to oblige.

I would be somewhat humoured to see you take offence.

BTW, I am 6'4" and ex Army.

I can hear you stamping your foot already, !!!!!!!

Rizlas come in for a pretty undeserved pasting on here - it's the basic principles of business, what's not to understand about that? Making a profit on the items you sell!

Should I have felt guilty last month for selling two concert tickets on ebay for way over face value when the concert wasn't even sold out? Maybe I should have pointed this out to the buyer and offered to refund the extra money he'd paid? Maybe even with a bit of compensation thrown in there too?

Though I should point out, maybe I'm not worth listening to either - I once jumped the barrier for the toilets at a London train stration when I got marooned there with no money.

Good on you another head on the chopping block!

It's amazing how some folk can complain about small misdemeanors. Yet don't look at the effect of their punitive attitude. It's a bit like preaching from the book and forgetting about 'forgiveness'.
