Can i just add that this suggestion was only intended to HELP others on here that are struggling with their finances so can I perhaps ask if any of you half wits that are criticising the BASIS of my suggestion, have any other ideas, then perhaps you would be better off posting those ideas on here instead of decrying my offering.
Otherwise, your comments are not welcome.
Come on, that's not nice.0 -
I'm with ya Riz!
I've scoured charity shops before, for designer/good brand name clothes, then flogged them on eBay and made WELL over what I've paid for them.
Or car boots. I bought a disco dancing costume for £4. Daughter had it in her dressing up box for a while. She outgrew it so I listed it on eBay. I nearly died when it sold for £51!
You don't need a massive outlay, I went a few weeks ago around local charity shops and spent about £16. It all sold for £103, which added to our holiday spends potTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Especially when I stated that it was from a SHOP doorway though I should've mentioned that I was 17 years old, No money, No food and No milk for a cuppa and that I STOLE it from a full crate of milk.
So as long as the person is broke and they only nick from shops-that's ok is it? You quite obviously don't have any morals if you are prepared to admit on an open forum you stole and then defend it.
You have to accept on here that not everyone will agree with you and roll with the punches -being nasty to someone for disagreeing with you makes you look bad,not me.
And no-actually I haven't ever stolen. And yes-I have been broke many many times in my life-I can do without a cuppa if it means I have to rob to get it,and that's the way I am bringing up my children, too!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -

Thats harsh and judgemental. I dont think he was boasting or proud of stealing just explaining the situation he was in. Neither do you fully know his situation or how you would react without being in his shoes. Plus thats got nothing to do with the tip he was giving on how to make a bit of money which was the whole point of this thread!
There are a few times where I have sold things that ive bought on sale or discount for a profit. Theres nothing immoral/wrong about it. Its done everytime you buy something from a shop. Thanks to OP0 -
Nice tip but how much is the cost of the fax? Sounds like you could make a loss quite easily. Many of the free ad newspapers now have a free online submission but a charge for advertising it on the web, not sure how much though.
Some folk recommend checking out car boot sales for bargains and flogging them online. I've not tried it myself but there are plenty of places such as submitting a free ad online and gumtree.0 -
I don't really have a problem with people making a profit. I don't particularly like the way this is done though - taking it back to the shop if it doesn't sell.
Reminds me of the local shop who used to give clothing out on appro. One woman took a dress home on a Friday and returned it to the shop on Monday. That week, her photo was in the local paper, taken at some do at the weekend, wearing the same dress.0 -
How can I put this without offending anyone?
The debate is out of hand.
The OP was offering an idea borne clearly out of hardship. Many people don't have it quite that bad.
No one has to do it and I can appreciate the comments about it being unfair to return things to the shop. However, I have seen suggestions in the past about M&S giving a fiver and then goods being returned but at the original price so the fiver kept by the purchaser. I didn't especially think that was right because I'm fond of M&S and their brand and I didn't want to see a good company taken advantage of. It wasn't long after that that M&S were on the point of going under.
I sell some things on ebay and some I've done surprisingly well out of. To the point where I've been looking at the price and saying to my husband that I ought to tell these people that it isn't worth £40 or in one case by the time they'd bought the item, paid the petrol, they could have got a new one in Argos!
If someone's got an idea (that isn't illegal) I'd like to hear it and I don't want them scared to post.0 -
I,m with rizla all the way. If you really need the money, and even if you just want more money, you should take his advice. I see no dishonesty here. If you take back an item because it,s unsuitable, in the same condition you bought it in there's no harm that I can see. It,s a bit cheeky I admit, but I like it.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

As far as I know Tescos will refund on ANY item purchased if returned complete and in the condition that you recieved it, for ANY reason.
Thanks TEEDY for having the intelligence to understand these principles.
I makes you laugh when Martin sends out Emails encouraging MSE members to open up a Bank Account solely with the intention of closing it, not using it, but to gain £50 in so doing, AND THAT GETS APPLAUSE
And the same !!!!!! that applaud, then go on to slag off proper enterprise, perhaps based on the suggestion that I am NOT QUALIFIED to suggest such an idea because I once nicked a pint of milk.

hi,
Can I ask, do or have you advertised goods in local free rags and do you think they sell?
On another note I accidently ended up with a cd twice and sold one on ebay. I listed it well under what I had bought it for (RRP) but someone paid more than I did. I really couldn't understand why they didn't just buy brand new from the shops
