Sounds like a saturday boy or jobsworth. If you paid cash, you are entitled to get cash back, if you paid by card then they can credit the card. I work in the retail sector and dont know of anyone that 'doesn't do cash refunds'?!?
Ask for the manager. As long as they are unused and undamaged then he/she should have no problems selling them on.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
Actually they don't have to give you a refund unless faulty. Companies vary in policy, the above poster assumes rather than knows as not all companies do the same thing!0

i was told by store manager that the company will only give credit notes and has never given cash refunds he said it was against company policy to give cash refunds. seems harsh if you cannot get your cash back and have to find more.0

Sportsworld's policy is well known about on these boards, and they do show it clearly by the tills.
No refunds at all - doesn't matter how you paid - unless faulty. Not very customer friendly, and unusual, but up to them and completely legal.
I'd accept the credit note and take your son back to the store. God knows they do enough varieties when I've been in there!0 -

I suggest you read up on consumer law if you work in retail.
A trader is not obliged to offer any refund whatsoever if the customer has simply changed their mind after purchasing an item. They are only legally obliged to offer refunds if the goods are faulty or not as described.
OP - I would take the credit note and let your son pick some other football boots or spend it on something else. Unfortunately this is the only way you will get your money back under this stores returns policy. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I know they dont have to refund on goods if you just change your mind or decide later you dont like the item but surely they can see what happens with this policy. The item "becomes" faulty with a little help.0

They have done the maths and worked out that the amount that they pay out on fraudulent faulty claims is less than they would have pay out if they operated a refund policy.
Anyway wouldn't the sort of person who would be happy making a fraudulent faulty claim just shoplift the item anyway.0 -

Great attitude! Can't get your way, so destroy the product and make a fraudulent claim.0 -
they have signs all over the store stating 'NO REFUNDS'.
xchange or get a credit note.0 -

The chances of getting caught shoplifitng = very high.
The chances of sportsworld calling a customer a liar and accusing them of deliberatly damaging the product = zero.0
