Yes, in business time is money. I run a part time business so I understand fully.

How come you let your lazy kids dictate your working day then?

Could you not ask Argos to put you all up in a local hotel for the night ,then leave you key under the mat,the drivers could let themselves in and take apart the old bed,If you leave them cups teabags and sugar out they could make a cuppa while assembling your new bed BUT not before they quickly run the dyson over the bedroom floor for you aswell...

Then if they have done all this you could still taken them to court for being unreasonable in customer care.......

I hope this is of some use to you !!!!!! icon10.gif

    Some replies then...

Tribulation - Argos did indeed screw up. They should have taken away the bed in the first place (driver was incorrect that he couldn't take away). But when the OP complained, and they stated that 14 days was the quickest they could do, this wasn't true. They could have replaced the whole bed - Yes overkill perhaps, but I know several High St retailers who would. They could have samedayed the part - again I know several high st retailers who would, but I would concur it isn't cost effective.

If the driver wouldn't release the new parts before the old ones, all the driver need do is call into the depot or the head office helpdesk to get this overriden by the team leader or supervisor.

The delivery routes are not designed around everyone's timescales, but they should have pre-called the customer 30 minutes before delivery - check their T&C's as they should have done this, not 5 mins before.

"Do you really expect Argos (or any other company) to completely rearrange their whole lives just to accommodate one unreasonable and unhelpful customer?" - Well I suppose it's whether Argos believe in customer satisfaction and put them first or not.

This wouldn't get to a small claims court. The OP wouldn't get anywhere, as Argos have not got a case to answer. But this is a vent forum and Argos' C.Service here has been shocking - they have done less than the bare minimum.

UKtim29 - You do seem to have a lot of experience in many things do you not ? I'll tell you what, drop me a line and I'll walk you around my D.C and my Rigid Fleet - or I'll arrange a tour of the Argos operation for you - I know the contract manager well, so you pick a day and I'll get it sorted. You tell me how many UK Logistics, Supply Chain or Distribution Operations you have managed in excess of £50m or how many 750k sq ft Warehouses you've run delivering the exact product in question here. I doubt you could even tell me who Argos use for delivery as their 3PL. I think I'll win on this one.

Argos are crap with beds. We had one delivered recently. Rang up to check availability and wastold it was in stock. Phoned back to order and they took my money. Argos said it would be a 3 week delivery time. "Great" I said "that'll be enough time to ring the council and arrange for disposal of old one". Next day someone rings to try and deliver the new bed! "No I've still got the old one"
Was told to ring back to rearrange delivery date. Spoke to the Council then phoned Argos. Now they don't have a bed to deliver because they sold it to someone else. Left with a date for old one to go and no date for new one to arrive! Worked out OK in the end but it meant having a houseful of beds at one point which was annoying but not the end of the world.

I think that these days these firms can't afford to keep stock in so they order stuff when you buy it but then they don't keep it for you when you've paid for it they just sell it to the next person.

I will only buy from Argos now if there is no alternative. Lost count of the number of times I've opened whatever it was up to find that it is broken inside! I think they THROW stuff onto that conveyor!

There used to be a blog called Argos-Employee which had some really interesting insightsin it but his bosses made him take it down. There are things they don't want us to know about ;)
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

    Peace, love and labradors!

No real advice, but I had to stick up for the OP's son.

I have an allergy to dust mites and if I were to lie on a carpetted floor, I would get very sick indeed. You can hoover a carpet all you like - you can't get rid of all the mites. It's not as simple as that. I can completely understand the OP's fear that the son would start wheezing - because it's a realistic one. (This is why I have laminate flooring in my own home!)

I think the most helpful suggestion so far is for the son to sleep with his parents for the night, space permitting, or for the OP to sleep on the floor if the bed isn't big enough. It's not ideal, I know, but assuming the OP isn't asthmatic too, it wouldn't make anyone ill.

    Bowing out gracefully now...

If he sleeps on the mattress on the floor, then his face won't be near the carpet. It may be a little closer than usual, but that's all.
  • I am pregnany and I made a purchase through Argos for my cot and pram. I wanted to buy things early as with the numbness and my SPD) Symphosis Pubis Dysfunction, I found through my last two pregnancies difficulty walking, so wanted to be ready.

I bought them on the 29th of August and was told it will arrive in 21 days. My pram came 10 days after purchase. It was 28 days when I enquired after the cot, as I had not heard from them whatsoever. They apologised and said it was delayed a day, it did not arrive. We called when it did not arrive and was told that it wold come on the 13th October, slightly annoyed we saw we had no choice.

On the 30th of Septembe we received a call to say that it will not arrive until the 27th of November. I was so upset, I said they charged by Debit card all that time and did not allow me to cancel my order. They will not discuss compensation until the item was delivered, when asked could they definitley 100% say the item will arrive then they said categorically no. I felt that this was unacceptable.
I asked them for my money back and asked them to come and pick the pram up, they did so by the 1st and said I would receive my money in 3 working days, so I went to purchase the cot from mama and papas they came in 3days and can you believe cheaper. I bought the pram from Amazon and again it arrived within a couple days. I received the money back for the cot but not the pram. Until now I am fighting to get my money back, each time I call I get the run around, and told to write in if I have a problem, there is no complaints procedure. Each time they say its been done and it has not. the bank says I have to fill out a dispute, in the meantime, I have no money because I was reassured the money will be back in my account in three working days from collection. I called up and was told it was refunded on the 7th. I called on the 10th and was told .
I used my family money to replace the pram because, I was sure to get my money back. we have no spare money or alternative income, we work and spend what we work for. We have two other children four and five and have been struggling for 2 weeks to get the money back, We wont be wages for another couple of weeks and Argos, seems to think that it is not their problem. 129.99 may not be much to some people but to our family it was to get us through the month. They are so horrible when we call, I cry , my partner talks to them and nothing has been done. I have been to the bank but they advise it can take a few weeks before it is sorted out. Trading standards are also a long winded process. Whatever happens I think I should be compensated for length of time, they have had my money and the undue stress caused. As I write we are concerned as to what will happen this week as last week was such a struggle.

Well that must be something to do with you or the way you're speaking to them.
  • Im new to this site, but this thread does go on somewhat .... However I can understand principles, but Argos do not have any as far as customers are concerned. They are not interested in public relatations because of their volume turnover, so best bet is to swallow being done, and not to shop there again. Well before they go to the wall that is.
