  • I'm looking to buy somewhere in 2011-2012 ish (I'll be 24 by then!!! eek). I took my house deposit fund thingie out of my signature as it seems so far off for me, plus I have so much to pay out in the next couple of years that my total is going to go down, rather than up!

    Im not sure really.

The main "reason" i wanted to get a house was more for my cats. They are quite big boys and I would love them to have a garden to play in (they are indoor cats). I live in a council flat and have done for 4 years now. Its a nice flat (not in a towerblock), just not very big.

Sorry im rambling!!! Im probably just worried because I have always lived in rented accommodation, and never had to worry about my own house, you know?

Im just not sure getting on the housing ladder as soon as possible is such a big deal?

But it does all hinge on what the house prices are doing in 2010 really. If they are still fairly high, my choice has been taken away :o
    Debt: just my mortgage :D
  • I know what you mean. It's a huge responsibility...

I keep thinking that it's not just the mortgage that needs to be paid -- there's council tax, gas, electricity, internet, tv licence, home insurance, etc etc... and they're just the bare basics! For me, I'll be paying for it all myself = more scary (no partner... though who know what might happen 3-years down the line. I might meet a millionairre :D).

I'll reiterate Cl there. You don;t know what will happen in a couple of years time. Three years ago I was living in a two bed council flat as a single parent, and now I have another child, a lovely house with mortgage etc, and we seem to be doing ok (touch wood)

You could meet someone, you may still be on your own, you could have more debt, less etc
I agree it will depend on what house prices are doing in a couple of years

To be fair though, i dont want a partner. I know that sounds so weird, but I want to keep finances and love life seperate as I have had 2 exes (long term ones) burn me with regards to money, and I feel very protective over it, so I think i would be 10 times more protective over a house... i probably sound like a nut nut now! :rotfl:

House prices is the big thing for me. I really "need" them to go down by about £20-30K, which i dont think is going to happen.

I dont think I will get myself into debt again (definitely no where near as much as I have now), but again you never can tell!

Its a waiting game I guess... and im very impatient. ;)

To be honest I don;t blame you and I have always kept a tight rein over my own finances after never having any of my own for so long.

Re a bloke, well they come in handy sometimes and I woldn;t be without mine now, but i KNOW he isn't going to do anything to jeopordise our relationship etc, he just annoys me lol. Having said that I loved the time I was a single parent too. it's whatever suits isn;t it.

    Off to work now :(
till 10pm, have a good rest of the day everyone
  • That's understandable if you've had someone mess up your finances before... I would like to buy my house on my own, rather than with someone else -- if only to prove that I did it all by myself with no help from anyone else!

Plus I doubt I'll find anyone who's able to put up with my odd ways but who knows?? I never thought I'd find myself in the situation I am in now, so I try not to plan too far ahead.

As for house prices going down... last year a house in our street sold for £215K... now there are houses in the street with 'offers around £175K' so I think it's quite likely that prices will continue to fall for a couple of years.

See ya later, yukki. Hope you have a good day.

YB- How old are you? Your life sounds good to me! Where you are now is where i want to be in a year. Mortgage & kids :)

Amy- House prices are dropping really quick! I check rightmove every week and prices have dropped by about £10-15k and they expect them to drop another 25% by 2010. Which is great news for us!

Hmmm my dad is in a bad mood today. I have felt it brewing up in the last couple of days. I feel like he's just waiting for me to say anything so he can misinterpret it and yell at me :S I'm keeping a low profile for today!

Someone has just offered me £30 plus p&p for my printer which is good (the BIN price is £40). I'm going to give it another day to see if I get anymore offers before accepting...
