Not really getting too far with PC World regarding my faulty PC.
I have e-mailed the problem and details of the purchase and the fault etc.
Seem to be getting copy e-mails from different 'Customer Care Representatives' :rotfl:
I really do not think that this is delaying tac tics, its just getting lost in the system of their intial responses to any faulty good's.
It is however becoming a real inconvenience to me and my family that although we can access a spare laptop we just do not seem to be proceeding very quickly.
Would you advise that now is the time that I write to the Head Office ?
The problem is that althought they have asked for a quote from a PC specialist for a repair to the fault, the Philips Unit does not have standard parts and my PC specialists do not really want to know.
I assume it reasonable for a PC World engineer to invetsigate this fault.
What do you reckon ART ??
Cheers
Matty
Write to the MD telling him your patience has run out and if you don't hear that he is prepared to deal with your problem within 7 days you will go to the Small Claims Court. Tell him that under the Sale of Goods Act it is unreasonable that an item costing over £1000 has stopped working after 18 months and you look to him to solve the matter without any cost to you.
Write to:

John Clare may already have left the company but your letter will find its way to the new MD. Send it recorded delivery.

im puzzled by the clause that states that after 6 months YOU have to prove an inherent fault-this to my mind is virtually impossible. does anyone know of any case that the retailer has refused a replacement/repair, and has been taken to court, and lost, (or Won) is there any point in using the SOG act for example if a TV went wrong after 3 years, for example.:cool:0

If there is an inherent fault it should not take six months to appear. The only way you could prove this after a longer period would be with an engineers report or if other users had the same problem.
As to your question about a three year old TV I would suggest you have little if any chance of getting it replaced or repaired free of charge.

Hi Matty,
Yes, that looks right. John Clare is, or was, the boss of the whole group which includes Dixons and Currys as well as PC World. Main thing is you've found someone at the top who might be able to help.

Hey people, here's hoping someone can help me out.
I bought a JVC HX-GD7 hifi not a week back and all was fine for the first few days when without warning the bloody display gave out AND the 5 disk changer packed up! (my sodding luck) anyway, I called up the shop where I bought it from, told them the story. I was told that the model I had was the last in stock and that the could only refund not replaceI thought id get it repaired under warranty because I like this model but found this on the JVC website "Obviously JVC supports the dealer network with technical advice, spare parts and financial assistance but we do not directly arrange service for under-warranty products."
Problem is, it wasn't bought via a dealer and if JVC don't directly arrange service for under warranty products how am I gonna get it fixed? So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable Christopher Reeve (1953-2004)0 -

Under the Sale of Goods Act the dealer is liable to offer to refund, replace or repair the unit. In offering you a refund he is fulfilling his obligation.
Why can't the shop you bought it from get it repaired for you? There must be plenty of electrical shops that can undertake this work.

Did ask him about a repair but he wasn't to enamoured with that idea, I suppose being a small independent he didn't want to additional cost and said its better to go via the manufacturer for the purpose of keeping warranty valid rather than have someone who's not JVC authorized do the job and end up creating more problems? So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable Christopher Reeve (1953-2004)0
