No, we don't have one of those either worst luck. We rarely seem to get any decent shops :(

I don't do all my shopping in my local Aldi but cherry pick.

When I went in last week they had salmon fillets at £1.79 for a pack of two. Most other places you are looking at least £2.50-£2.99. They had tuna steaks on special offer and that was 99p for two. Normally £1.99 even at £1.99 still cheaper then most other places. Not had them yet.

Multi gran type bread 54p a loaf but in Asda/Tesco 82p and the ravioli about 33p a tin and if I had not know I would have said heinz at nearly 3 times the price.

    50 Decaffeinated tea bags 60p.

There are lots of things I can't buy in there. Like frozens veg because I like it seperate and not togther and don't really like cauliflowers.

  • Aldi great for bread, yogurt, milk, cold meat(fantastic!)
Thought I would give Lidl a go after reading about it on here and Im definately converted, even though I have a fair old drive to get there. My nearest supermarket is Waitrose.. daylight robbery in comparison (unless you have a load of money off coupons!)
V impressed with their fruit and veg and they didnt just have basic stuff either, was pleasantly surprised to find the pointy peppers, pots of herbs, butternut squash etc all less than half waitys price and just as good. Also dried herbs and spices half the price. When done in a curry or chilli no one owuld ever tell the difference!
Also, as mentioned on this thread already, olive oil, butter beans and bread mix all excellent, oh and cheese.

We regularly cherry pick some of the great buys at Aldi's to supplement our main shop from elsewhere.

We love the cooked meat selection, I was dubious at first but can recommend the garlic sausage, 39p I think, delicious. Theres a huge range of hams, beef etc that we prefer to the supermarket for price and quality.

Some of the dairy desserts, 3 packs of strawberry trifles for 99p are gorgeous. We like the cream whipped yoghurts as well. The cheese is great. Love the gammon joints as well. Foccacia pizzas are tasty. The olive oil is fine.

The fruit and veg in my Aldi is generally of a good quality.

Our cats like the tinned and pouched food from here as well.

Nearly forgot, how can you go wrong with 39p for a bag of chocolate eclairs or toffees, mmm mmm.

In my area the Aldi's is well above the standard of the Lidl which is frankly poor however I guess this is just a local issue.

I read elsewhere on this forum that aldi did not accept credit cards and checked with the staff in my local - they definately all do!! :j I've been using my debit card in there for years too. Great shop - we've saved a fortune and there's always something worth buying in the weekly specials baskets.

    Hi,
my local one in Liverpool definitely is with wide aisles and disabled parking.
They definitely accept Visa Debit and Switch cards and do cash back. Not sure about other cards.

Very lucky as I have Aldi and Netto within 5 minute drive and on the way home from work pass a lidl.
Tend to go mainly to Aldi, Netto and Sainsbury.

Have been going to Sainsburys too much lately so this thread has made me think about economising. Will give them a miss until Christmas.

that reminds me, for those who DO like mixed veg lidl does a really tasty italian mix... i got it on sale the first time at 79p per bag, it's gone up to £1.49 now but it's still cheaper than birdseye and the quality is good...even has butter in it already so you don't have to spend any extra on that though the scottish butter is only 53p per packet
