I thank you but I'm being dim so bear with me.

I'm not on the internet on the laptop. There's a connection I'm connected to, but I've just got the desktop screen. I don't know how to get on the internet from the desktop screen since the aol button was deleted.

I'm reading this and posting on the main computer which is working fine.

    Does that make sense ?

Yes, that's the problem with using AOL software, it anaesthetises the user's brain cells, assuming that they had any to start with!

Good to hear that you are now sorted.

    How true!
I've just helped some friends, uninstalled aol, they told me it was required to connect and I'd messed up.
I've left them playing with Firefox and trying to figure how everything is working without the "essential" aol software.
I even persuaded the wife to try a Gmail account i.e.non-aol .

    Now to sort speed issues.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Glad you are now sorted and saving money too !

You will alos probably find it quicker to get on to internet without loading/signing in AOL first.

    Thank you all again :T

    ( Think I've driven expresso mad :o )

In my defence ( if there is one ) I've been with aol for the past 8 years, right from the beginning of my internet use. And yes, I guess there's a huge chunk of the 'aol way' tunnel vision.

It takes time for dinasaurs to learn new tricks ;)

    Hi Somerset

Glad to hear that everything is ok now. One thing that hasn't been mentioned and might have worked - you might have been able to do a restore on your laptop to an earlier date before the disaster happened. ( or if something happens again :D )

    Happy surfing

That is very true. Thanks to someone on here I managed to repair my internet access by doing a restore. Had broken it by installing an old scanner. Did not know why scanner broke it - I was blaming AOL server moves.

I had previously come from a Windows 95 system and done no reading on XP so was not aware of system restore points.
