Have a wee squint at Salobrena (with enye) which is almost due south of Granada on the coast - and you can day trip up to Granada in 1/2 hr or so....
CLICKY to TripAdvisor on Salobrena.
Oh - if at all possible, check out a "pension" in the village itself, if you want a more real time than the hotels.... The one I stayed in was fab (but yonks ago and I can't remember the name, alas, and mules paraded past the terrace every morning as we breakfasted en plein aire (or should that be "al aire libre"?)
Enjoy Spain! (I'd not take up much of your luggage allowance, btw.)Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

Just got back from Estepona further down the Costa Del Sol.
Beautiful town would highly recommend it ,beach fab ,still quite cultured , not half as busy as the big resorts further up the coast.
Gibraltor only 45 mins drive and if you fancy a bit of the high life Marbella only 10 mins driveMoneysaving? - I cant stop spending because of this site!0 -

We've just driven from Seville, to Cadiz, then to Gibraltar, along the coast as far as Almeria, and also inland to Granada. Estepona is the only Costa del Sol town Id recommend staying in. Lovely square for evening drinks (Plaza de la Flores). Frigiliana about 5 miles inland from Nerja was also ok. No idea what its like east of Almeria. The beaches to the west of Tarifa are more sandy. Seville is a nice city, we stayed at Hotel Murillo for around £50 a night for 2 including breakfast. I can also recommend a great hotel 10 mins from the Alhambra in Granada if you're interested. Trevelez in the Alpujarra mountains is lovely and has the best jamon in Andalucia! There's lots of culture and also nice beaches in Andalucia. But personally I didnt like the Costa del Sol resort type towns - very busy and parking almost impossible.0 -
Nerja is a lovely place, not spoiled and still very spanish, full of white washed houses with terracota roofs. Just got back on Monday and had another great holiday in Nerja, end of September and into October the weather is really good. Bit cooler at that time of year but last week it was hitting 40 some days so a bit hot for a lot of people.
Plenty of beaches and lovely bars and restaurants, it really is a lovely place.
On the 8th of October the local feria starts, it has live bands, entertainment and plenty of eating and drinking. I haven't been in Nerja when the feria is on but my parents have and say it is really good.:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

Rainy season :rotfl: :rotfl:
I lived in Murcia for 11 years 30 minutes south west of Alicante and never had a rainy season !
Try Costa Calida fly to Murcia and in Spetember you will have 22-25 degrees and some great days, not overpriced and plenty of English food /habits of that floats your boat . Some great beaches and access to many areas."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

The part of Spain I know is the Western End of Costa de la Luz on the border of Portugal. It is very Spanish although a lot of restaurants they speak some English now but don't bother if you really don't want the 'real' Spain, I know some people that say that's what they want & then come back & say everyone spoke Spanish, lol.
Cadiz is supposed to be beautiful, haven't got that far East myself yet but it is on the to do list.
You can't guarantee not to have rain anywhere in Spain but in 4 years it's always been very hot during September (October too usually), the rain tends to come on and off around mid October.0
