  • Is there any site that compares pet insurance quotes?

I have "Googled" in vain and it is such a minefield, no two policies give you the same cover and it is so time consuming comparing them all.

So far I have spent ages on this and I have whittled it down to M&S, Petprotect and Sainsburys.
  • dont go with pet plan its a rip off i have had quotes off them before for my horse pet plan quoted me £87 per month, and i wnt to scotish equestrian and i now pay £20 per month for exactly the same cover, so its the same with dogs shop around and stay clear of pet plan unless you want to waste money on them.

Don't think there is a good one. Moneysupermarket do it, but I seem to remember that there were loads of non-lifetime &/or E&L policies.

Remember that Petprotect give you one month free, so next year your premium will increase. Likewise Sainsbury, although there's also a 10% discount which will make the increase even larger.

Sainsbury's policy doesn't reset every year, so that £6,500 is the most you can claim over the whole life of your pet.

Try Halifax, NFU and AXA (and PetPlan for a shock :) ).

We had real problems in finding a reasonable insurance for our elderly pets - pedigree dog and mongrel cat both aged 11, but came across www.healthy-pets.co.uk who charge us £18.63 a month for the 2. Dog accounts for most of this amount. Haven't had to claim in the 2 years we've been with them, so can't comment on service.

Look at their website for further info.

Healthy Pets is a set-limit policy that does not reset every year. Once you've claimed the £x per condition that's it.

I have two Pugs who are insured with M&S and I can only praise this company very highly so far!

My eldest Pug has no excess and this summer she had to have an emergency eye operation because her eyelashes had poked into one of her eyes and caused damaged. She then had to have another operation to remove her eyelashes so that this wouldn't happen again. The treatment and all the follow-up visits (which, on their own, were £100-£200 because this was a specialist we were seeing!) came to nearly £3,000. M&S paid up very quickly with no fuss and it was great having no excess. They also paid my petrol money because it was a 40 minute journey to and from the specialists in Birmingham.

She also has luxating patellas in both bag legs (a condition where the kneecaps pop out or aren't in place at all). She has just had the operation on the first leg, for which the insurance paid up £717 and they will then pay for the other leg to be done after Christmas.

When the paperwork came through for her 2nd year's renewal it had gone up by a £1. She will also need eye drops costing £45 for the rest of her life which the insurance will pay for. I honestly can't fault them.

Correct me if Im wrong but don't Petplan only allow for one condition per year? With M&S I can claim for any amount of conditions as long as it doesn't exceed £7,000 in one year.

Marks & Spencer offer a great option on their pet insurance policy. For my cat, I could choose to pay an additional couple of pounds and then have a zero excess. My last policy with PetPlan cost me about £35 more than the M&S policy and it came with a hefty £75 excess.

I got My renwal for Prince from M&S and it was £103 for the year shes a 4 year old Moggie Ive always been with M&S because of the No Excess and now there stopping it. We never even made a claim this time what a con.

So many of us have been, are and will be shafted on this M & S pet insurance. See UKTigerlily post 'M&S Insurance Renewal' elsewhere on this pet forum - think it was 19/11/07 - and the replies from quite a few folk, myself included. If u get a good alternative, please post.

Yes, I found the other posts after posting; some links were not working at the time.

After much research, I narrowed it down to Halifax and Axa. Axa won as it was cheaper for my 10yr old male; no doubt it will shoot up again next year. Have had to stay with M&S for the 8yr old !!!!! as she had a partial mammary strip this year and lumps may reappear.

Good luck with your search; so time consuming and it is like comparing apples with cauliflower.

[This may be duplicated as my first reply to you disappeared.]

I have been thrilled with the service from M&S and would rather not have had to move. I was with with them for 2 years and in the 2nd year, the premiums went up by less than a pound. This year, the male dog's premium went from £19.95 to £36.60! There have been no claims. No insurance company can justify that and I will be contacting the Financial Ombudsman.
