If you are on any means tested benefit then you can get it done for £10 by the PDSA.
This is one of the times when you really dont want an over weight pet, most vets charge for the op on a sliding scale working on the pets weight0 -
Aside from the E&L thing, the other biiiig problem with Animal Friends is the huge increase in excess when your dog reaches age 8.
35%
Bear in mind that once (if) something goes wrong, you're pretty much stuck with that insurer. Halifax (AXA) is cheaper (although I'm waiting for an M&S-style increase in the future, that might happen with any of the good value insurers).0 -
i think the only time it is covered by insurance is when there is a medical reason why they should be speyed/neutered:rolleyes: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

Thanks for the info on E&L I don't think I'll bother with them.
Is it better to go to M&S or direct to AXA is there much difference in the policies?
Thanks

M&S quote yesterday for 8 week old lab pup - £268.74
Axa direct quote this morning - £161.70
Big difference between the two for near enough the same policy?
Halifax - £119.780 -
I've now looked at Halifax, NFU (waiting for the paper work as its not online) and petplan and the quotes are so different.
Halifax came back at £6.51 for there top cover and Petplan was £16.31 both policies look similar and both are lifetime but why should Petplan so much more expensive.
Does Halifax greatly increase there premiums or is it just Petplan being one of the biggest over charge?
Thanks

Surprised to read a newsletter from my vet (dont normally read them) which says they are charging £7.50 plus vat for every insurance claim form completed.
"The .. Financial Services Authority guidlines state that all insurance claims forms must be photocopied and stored for a period of five years. In the light of this and in consideration of the large volumes of claims that are being submitted for completion,an administration vet has been employed to complete insurance claims forms and to answer insurance queries. By employing this vet..we.. will be able to process claims faster. To cover the extra costs there will be an admin charge of £7.50 plus vat for each claim form completed."
Is this normal?0 -
i guess they are entitled to do this, just as doctors charge for forms to be completed for insurance etc.
My vets dont charge for this service and my vet previously at another practice didn't charge - perhaps you're just unlucky with your practice
The only thing I know that vets are NOT allowed to charge for is the completion of prescription forms if you wish to purchase medication over the internet.0 -
I have edited my post now to quote their exact words.
It seems to me that we are being charged £7.50 for them to photocopy and file a form, maybe others think differently.Obviously as a business they can charge what they like.0 -
I'm having a headache at the moment, just going through all the sites for new pet insurance quotes for my cat, and stupidly left it till the last minute and policy runs out tomorrow! I've have been with M&S since last year, and have luckily never made any claims, but now they have hiked up my renewal by £27.43  and are asking for £101.89  which is a lot of money for a 2yr moggie.
Here's hoping Ill get something cheaper online and maybe with some cashback.
Update.....
Big Thanks for the posted info from thetargetarcher & Bromley86 :T
I went on the AXA direct site and managed to get the price down to £56.32 pa with pretty much identical cover with M&S0
