Nice one - I didn't even think of going direct to AXA.
In my case (3m old lab b*tch), it wouldn't have been cheaper. AXA was £226, so Halifax and NFU were much better. Still, significantly cheaper than M&S yet with it's high annual limit. Also, no maximum age limit.0 -
I took out insurance with Tesco for my cat nearly a year ago and it does say in the text that they can pay the vet directly, but it doesn`t say it in the T&C`s as far as i can see. I spoke to the adviser about it on the phone when i set it up and he said if the vet was agreeable then they would.
I`m thinking that if there was an accident or something and i didn`t have the money available that would make life easier. My sister-in-law told me recently that in her experience vets don`t usually do this. Anyone had any experience of this with their vets?0 -
Hi,
I got my dog insured with "More than" & although it say the same on the claim form when i asked at the vets they said no. Something to do with the fact that if the insurance does not pay out for any reason they don't have to spend time chasing & arguing with you for the money.Life's what you make it.:j0 -
When my Dad's dog had to go to a specialist for allergy tests the vet took the credit card number in the eventuality that the insurance company wouldn't pay out. He (the vet) actually submitted the claim form to the insurance company, as we took it with us when we went for the first appointment.
That worked out fine as Tesco did pay up.0 -
You need to remember that the contract is between you and the vet: the obligation will always be that you personally are liable to settle the account and not the insurance company. Settling directly at the time means better cashflow and also eliminates the problem of paying the excess. For this reason most vets would not encourage direct payment from the insurance company. Having said that, if you were a regular and known client and clearly had an unforeseen disaster, I can't imagine them being difficult.
Best thing to do would be check with the vets themselves- most receptionists will know what the general policy is.0 -
Has anyone any experience of D&G and insurance for dogs? I got a good quote through Surrey Pet Supplies and their Pet Plan insurance which is underwritten by D&G for my rescue choc lab. Just wondered if anyone has had to claim from them and if they were OK.
Thanks.0 -

Hi all
I had my 3 Dobermanns insured last year with M&S age of dogs 6, 4 and 16 mths paid insurance with an extra £5 on each policy so had no excess to pay paid per month £35 in total for all dogs , no dogs to the vets and all are well so I was gobsmacked to say the least when this year it jumped to over £90 a month after checking out the cost is £48. for one dog and £25 each for the other 2 , other insurance are just as costly

Hi there
I'm currently with Tesco and their premium has gone up from £14.55 pm to £19.55 pm. I've done a bit of searching and it seems that insurance companies are not too interested in the old 'uns!
Any recommendations for an insurance company that deals directly with the vet who will be prepared to take him on?

Hiya Petal,
You might be better off doing what I do with my older pet. At the age of 6 after 2 or 3 conditions the monthly premium for my dog was put up to £300!! needless to say I cancelled my insurance, other insurance companies came up with similar figures.
Since then I have paid my vet £45 per month by direct debit so that there is always a kitty (excuse the pun!) for any treatment etc. Works out very well. Hes 10 and a half now and amount has stayed the same per month in all of that time.
If I had paid lets say £250 a month premiums, I would be much out of pocket by now.0
