Do not touch A&L or E&L with a barge pole its grief all the way as far as getting a claim from them , you could try NFU they are not just for farmers plus they have a loyalty scheme.0

We are getting a black labrador puppy in a couple of weeks and are unsure which insurance to get as neither of us have owned a dog before.
I have read a few of the threads on here but there seems to be conflicting stories as to which companies provide the best service.
Any advice would be appreciated!
And we haven't picked a name either if anyone would like to make a suggestion!!0 -
Im with More Than and have had a nightmare with them. They wont pay out on my dogs allergy (recently diagnosed) as they say that it was showing symptoms before the policy started!
Anyway to cut a long story short I pay £11.99 a month.Total DebtWas £4145.81now £0.000 -
I would highly recommend lloyds tsb pet insurance have been with them for 7 yrs now only pay 12 per month and have claim ever year, I normally pay by credit/debit card and them lloyds pay it back within 7 days. It was 9 per month when we got our dog so it has not gone up that much considering i have claimed.0

We are with Sainsbury's and although I dont remember the exact cost I can say we had no problems at all claiming when one of our dogs was bitten by an adder or when the other one slashed her stomach open on a barb wired fence. They also gave us discount as we had 2 dogs, and now have given us further discount because we have done our cat through them aswellGreen and White Barmy Army!0

Martin's done a great article on pet insurance and pitfalls associated with it.
Pet Insurance Cost Cutting
My advice would be to read the small print, because some policies will only cover a condition for 12 months (not much use if your pet needs lifelong treatment) and be aware that you genuinely do get what you pay for in the current pet insurance market. I wouldn't normally say it's so cut and dried but the well-known, longstanding pet insurance companies are really genuinely good to deal with and the ultra-cheap companies (can I name the real bad guys here ... not sure ... look for the red swoosh!) are truly awful - they'll find endless reasons not to pay and they'll be very slow about it if they do come up with the cash. Nothing worse than an insurance battle when your pet is unwell and you're facing a large veterinary bill.0 -
I took out pet insurance with M&S about 7 months ago after looking at all the other options. At that time IMO they offered the most comprehensive cover and also there is no excess to pay for any claims (unlike most companies that charge around £70 for each claim). In addition their insurance covers any illnesses etc for the lifetime of the pet not like other insurers that cover up to a maximum amount. All in all for maybe an extra £1 or £2 a month i felt this cover to invaluable.Ricardo0
