That's odd. My first rescue dog was picked off the streets of Leeds. The vets at the rescue centre estimated her to be 12 months old. I used this in the PetPlan application and they were perfectly happy with that.
On the online application form PetPlan only ask for your dogs name, date of birth, it's breed and your details before giving you a quote. Maybe give it another go if you can afford it.
Well done by the way for rehoming a rescue dog :T :A

2 weeks before christmas last year my cat got into a fight and burst (yes burst!) his eyeball, we had to put drops in every hour for 2 days and then were told this wasn't working and he had to be operated on to keep his eye. The operation only had a 90% chance of working but we had to have it done. It cost over £900 plus all the drops and antibiotics afterwards. We didn't have pet insurance
The happy ending is, my cat kept his eye and is back to perfect health, we managed to get the money but couldn't afford it again.
He is an outdoor cat but we think this happened when he was play fighting indoors with our other cat so you can never EVER be too careful, even indoor cats can have accidents!

there's a company called animal friends i think (not sure of exact name but they will insure animals from rescue places, with no history & even do insurance to cover existing conditions & even FIV)
I have the documentation at home, will try & find it tonight & post tomorrow!!!nothing to see here, move along...0 -
Pet insurance is a necessary evil with a dog like mine, she's 5 and has had an overnight stay in a vets every year since she was born, a broken leg last year cost me around ~£400. I've insured her now with Petplan (£16 per month) which gives the best cover - cover for life rather than £xxx per illness or £xxx per year etc.
If you do it online thru Quidco, there's £25 cashback too0 -
Yes I know not all animals are able to get pet insurance (well not readily seen). We dont have insurance for our parrots but I was just trying to offer a bit of advice. Learn from your / others mistakes and all!
Iamstacie, we also need it for our dogs. The male has ripped his ear open and got bit by an adder when he brought it back to us, thinking we could play with it.... (stupid dog, lol). Our female dog ripped her stomach open when trying to jump a barb wired fence (She was following the male) and that cost a fortune aswell. All took overnight stays and lots of medication / stiches. Ah the joys of having springers! LolGreen and White Barmy Army!0 -

Which is fine its just the title simply said 'please get pet insurance' which rather assumes that all pets can/should. Just thought it was worth mentioning that this isn't the case is all.:heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:0 -
We have pet insurance through Petplan - The RSPCA recommended them to us when we adopted our cat off them (our cat only has 3 legs and we have had no problems insuring him)Sealed Pot Challenge Member Number #19060

We got pet insurance for our weim who we got from rescue. We had a rough idea of his age, but no medical history, M&S and More than have both accepted him in the past. We now use M&S as we get a discount from them for having 2 dogs and 2 cats insured with them.
I would advise anyone getting a pet to use pet insurance, we've claimed thousands for our weimy and he now has a few ongoing illnesses/ailments and hes covered for life through M&S, we would be up to our necks and sinking fast by now if we hadnt had him insured.
