plus £40 cashback through quidco is a bonus!
Just logged back in after a few weeks so just seen this sorry.
I think i'm going to take out the insurance with more than as it seems reasonable and what we can afford this year.In Progress!!!0 -
I don't insure my pets at all.0

I've taken a look at some insurance policies for our new puppy, and the price of More thans insurance of classic or premier looks to be affordable.
Are they an ok insurer?
Looked at pet plan but it was over £20 a month for a mixed breed dog.0 -
Pet Plan quote for me (8 month kitty) £13.33 a month one month free. This is the classic policy up to £4,000 per year.
Does this seem reasonable?Back on the trains again!0 -
hello im currently looking into pet insurance for my cat.
but im in a bit of a strange situation.
she is 2. was spayed in 2011. I had nothing for a year and now she is going into season all the time.
I took her to vet 7 months ago and explained he said theyd have to do 3 blood tests at £150 each to see if everything was ok. They would reimburse me if it was their mistake during the spay but he said it likely isn't as there was no going into heat for the first year.
As ive been to vet about this once before would insurance company not pay for anything related to this issue?
I cant afford £450 just for tests and then however much else on top for any treatment
thank you0 -
afternoon i am having a visit from the celia hammond animal trust to hopefully take on 2 kittens. Someone suggested i put money away each month as insurance excess is so high it is not worth it and the money will be left claiming interest. I was with Tesco pet insurance and was paying at the end £89 a month as Eric the cat was 17 when he died. I couldn't claim any money when he was put down and never put in a claim as Eric was so healthy. It does worry me if the kittens had to have treatment before i could save a decent amount, especially as i am temping at the moment and the kittens will be indoor cats.
What would people recommoned now?0 -
Hi Lindaf1 - have you thought about starting a policy and putting some away too if you are able? Don't forget to get a 'whole of life' one.
I am still in two minds with my cat. I have started the pet plan one.
I think thats really awful that you never claimed for Eric but when you did you did not recive anything.
I was keen at first to insure mine as my mum had an older rescue cat and after three months she cancelled it - this was quite high for her. Two months later it needed vet treatment.Back on the trains again!0 -
thank you i can't really afford to pay for insurance and put away money, i am worried i can start to put away money and then end up having to pay for treatment but after paying all that money for nothing i am a bit reluctant to do that as well. The kittens will be indoor kittens as i live in a flat.
i will have to have a think about it.0 -
on saturday (15th March) i got 3 kittens from Celia Hammond Animal Trust in Canning Town :T. i am still thinking what my best option will be and what insurer to go with as i was with Tesco insurance for my cat Eric but they had quite a high excess policy. :j0

A high excess might, IMO, be desirable. Given that (a) insurers charge customers the cost of claims plus a percentage, (b) insurers can and do vary the terms/premium over the life of the pet and (c) people are claiming more than they might have 20 years ago, if you go for a low excess policy, you'll just end up paying for someone else's pet's geriatric medicine.0
