    Tescos.

When our last one was ill they coughed up the £1100 without a word, we liked them. But now is very expensive and I'm pretty upset. We came back from the vet an hour ago.

I think that them saying you couldn't upgrade without cancelling and taking out a new policy is worth a letter/call to the Insurance Ombudsman.

Hi all, just brought my pup home yesterday and am now looking at pet insurance. A quick question if I may, it asks for dogs breed, so I enter cross breed, but then it has one more space which has to be filled with breed. Which breed do I enter?? She is a Lhasa Apso/Border Terrier. Thanks for any help, I don't want to get it wrong!

Is there space to put Lhasa/border terrier cross? or just put border terrier x. Or even terrier x. If they want more info. they would ask, I presume. What does the pup look like, more border or lhasa? With all the 'designer' or deliberate crosses out there now, I wouldn't be surprised if they started loading premiums against certain crosses.

Lots of pet insurance policies are loaded against certain breeds, depending on their health problems, like soft palate ones in bulldogs, patella problems in dogs like rotties, etc.

Does anyone have dog insurance with Argos? I *think* their platinum cover sounds good, but am just wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Many thanks.

    hello all.

I am cross eyed from the amount of insurance websites I have looked at tonight, can anyone help me?

I have 2 cats, (both chipped vacc'd and chopped)

    I would like.
    Lifetime cover
    Low excess
    Pay direct to vet

Can anyone recommend me maybe 3 companies to look at please?

I don't need half of the stuff they offer, quarantine etc, I just want a good quality no nonsense cover. I have read back to 2011, and I am none the wiser!

I have saved quotes from John Lewis and Tesco so far, I know to avoid E&L, but the rest is a mystery to me!

Thank you very much, in advance.

What are people experience/opinions on 'accident only' policies?

We've gone for accident/injury only policy this time - Tesco, £3.79 for cat of any age.

Our cat is 16 now, never been ill apart from dental treatment which has not been covered, but cheapest policy at renewal last month was £19.

If she develops a serious illness at this age I wouldn't put her through a long course of treatment which might only give her a very short time of life, but would get her treated for an accident or injury, so this policy is ideal.

That's interesting, never heard of that before. I agree with you about not putting an elderly animal though a long course of treatment.

NFU, as I believe they underwrite their own policies so won't be changing underwriters, and PetPlan, which are rated highly but their premiums are quite high. A lot depends on where in the country you are. Being in London apparently sends the price shooting up. And beware as all insurance companies can change their excess amount. This happened to me with Marks and Spencer with insurance for both a cat and a dog. It went from zero excess, hard to believe but true as this was when they first entered the pet insurance market only about 8 years ago, to I think £75. Companies can also now ask you to contribute an amount towards each claim, on top of the excess. I opted out several years ago, and so far, I have been quids in.

You may have made your decision by now, but we recently chose PetProtect. We're fairly new cat owners, so may be naive about the options, but I did some comparison work before choosing. I eventually plumped for PetProtect because they charged us £6 a month for a no-excess lifetime policy for our 8-month old male kitten (neutered, jabbed etc).
