I had my GSD dog covered by Marks ans Spencer and changed to Animal Friends. What a mistake, it saved me £10 per month but sadly they have been shocking. My dog recently feel over whilst jumping and damaged his leg. Vet carried out the operation having spoke with the insurance comapany to make sure they would cover the costs. I was given the OK and had a £3000 operation. When the claim was posted to AFI they asked for my dogs medical history. I posted all the details. 2 weeks later they refused to pay stating that i had taken my dog to the vets 4 years ago with a bad leg which i had not told them about. I explained that this was an unrelated problem which was dealt with 4 years earlier. Be very carful when buying insurance for pets and stick with the big firms, Petplan & Marks and spencer. They will try anything to avoid paying. Use google and see how other people review the firms.
This could have happened with any change of insurers.0 -
just had a qoute from M&S and AXA both £152 to insure a Yorkshire Terrier
can anyone recommend which of the 2 companys would be better to go with?
Thankyou0 -
Hi, I'm still dithering over insurnce for our 1 yr old labrador, just got a quote from Argos, which seems pretty good, the level I'm looking at if £7000 per year with £65 excess per condition per year for £15.90/m.....does anyone have any experience with Argos insurance?
Thank you0 -
Lou I am asking the same as you. I have just got a quote from AXA for an Old English Sheepdog puppy £377.51 (£100 excess) and for Platinum cover from Argos the £7,000 per year - £246.54 (£65 excess) quite a big saving. Pet Plan I would need a second mortgage for. Any info / advice regarding Argos Pet Insurance would be really great.0

i dont know if this is the right place to ask or not. We have a 12 wk old Dogue De Bordeaux who we need to have insured. The breeder at the time told us we would be looking at max £20 per month insurance however our vet said we need a lifelong policy as they are prone to growth problems as they are such a large breed. The quotes i have been getting seem to range from £50-80!!! Is this right? I just didnt want to pay up to £1000 per yr for insurance!
We have a 7 and a half month old DDB. She's undergoing treatment at the minute for a problem with her elbow - we aren't yet sure of the cause but suspect it's one of the common complaints for the breed. We are with helpucover.co.uk (formally Pinnacle) and pay £42.17 per month for a life time policy up to 6K per year per condition. We figured if she's going to get any problems they are likely to be BIG ones.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

I have just insured my two cats through M&S.
One is 6 1/2 and the other is 7 1/2. Oddly the oldest one is cheaper than the youngest.
Why would that be so?
I applied last night on the internet so have I done something wrong?0 -
Are they different sex? My male cat was more expensive to insure than my female - he is definitely the more troublesome!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

My males are more expensive to insure that females too.
Used to have M&S, was very good but when I got a quote on renewal.....(nearly double for both dog and cat) switched to Argos Platinum.0 -
Hello,
can anyone recommend an insurer for an older cat?
Walter came to live with us after his owners, my partner's parents, moved abroad.
He's around 14, neutered, and is a Siamese cross - partner's mam says he was bought from a Siamese breeder and his sister (RIP) was seal-point, but Walter is about two stone of muscle with blonde fur, which doesn't look very Siamese to me.
He doesn't have any health problems apart from chronic laziness but I've found some insurers won't cover a cat of his age.

Why do you feel the need to insure your cat? I wouldn't insure any other cat I get in the future. It did not make any sense whatsoever.Just put some money aside every month to cover any eventual vet bills. I cancelled the only insurance I ever had for any of my cats, after finding it climbed to a ridiculously high level and when I did make two claims, for an abcess, I still had to pay a £75 excess. Keep him in at night as that is the time they are most likely to get into accidents.0
