that seems like a big increase. have you called them up to ask if they have made a mistake? AXA only increased my premium by about 13% (and my cat is very old at 15 years of age!)

Im considering insuring my 2 cats, was going to go with argos as they seem resonable but on the "assumption" bit at the end you have to tick it mentions the cats having had boosters/vaccinations within the last 12months or as advised by vet. Well I've never had my cats boosters/vacs as they are indoor and don't see the point of it.

Anyhoo, does that mean I can't get insurance with them?
  • Hi everyone....

Very new to pet insurance. My Jack Russell Cross is the first dog I've owned as a grown up".

Basically, Dash (JRC) is 16 weeks, upto date jabs/flea/wormed, he is micro chipped, but not yet had the snip due to age, but will do as soon as he is old enough. As yet we have no problems, medically and I'm sorting insurance. I've got a few quotes and it's all very confusing (and 110 pages on here are far too many to go through).

So... my quote is £17.93 per month and is called a covered for life, budget plan £4,000 per year and quotes:

Our Covered for Life policies are designed for pet owners looking for comprehensive cover. Once insured, each new illness or injury is covered throughout your pet's life, regardless of age or how long the condition lasts, provided the policy is renewed each year without a break in cover.

Does anyone think this is good? Is this insurance company good?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    TIA
    SL X

petplan and axa are two of the best around, you could also try NFU but they only do phone quotes.

£4000 sounds like a lot, but some accidents and illnesses can eat through that amount in no time, especially if you live in central london (i have claimed almost £4000 in 5 months for cancer with one of my cats).
  • Thank you lowis.

I wasn't sure if £4000 was enough, with this being the first time I'm purchased Insurance. Do you think I sohlud accpet this?

I'm very sorry your cat has cancer. Is he/she getting better?

  • m+s were recommended to us by the local vet
  • Please don't use M&S as we were taken in by their for life policy, which turns out to be their license to print money. As a result we were stuck with premiums that double and treble and as our dog got older we could not really change because of her pre existing conditions. She got very ill in September and by that time they had raised our excess to £70 plus we had to contribute 35% of any claim. The worst is that we did not realise that they had changed the policy (our fault for not reading it properly) so that if your pet dies in the first month of the policy you will then owe them 11 months premiums even when your pet has died. We dont know what sort of company can think this is acceptable but when we complained they where quite ruthless regarding the new clause. As a result they deducted 7 months premium from the final settlement even though the agreement was monthly direct debit. I complained to BBC Watchdog but they did not reply.

I have both my Cat & Dog with M&S for over 4 years, and so far not had any problems. My Dog has a pre existing food allergy, which any company wouldn't insure, but Jan last year he was diagnosed with hip dysplacia & arthritis. They paid out over 4k this year including a hip replacement. my premium renewal went up by approx £90 which to me is nothing considering the benefit. Any treatment whilst under a policy will more than likely be a pre-exisiting condition when trying for quotes with a new company. So yes whilst I will be stuck with M&S for life, and they may have me over a barrel, at least I know I'll have cover.
