Hope you don`t mind, I have a few questions! I have a 3 year old Dog who had Demodex as a puppy and has been treated for a grass seed in her paw and an eye infection, All by the PDSA I am looking at going with AXA. Will all skin complaints/eye infections be ruled out of any claim? I did a dummy run with Axa and I am happy with the quote but all it asked was if she had been seen by a vet previously. Do I have to contact PDSA and ask for a list of her treatment? Also, My cat was a stray before I took him in and have no medical history on him apart from chipping and snipping(Celia Hammond Trust)and an eye infection at the PDSA. He isn`t upto date with his injections either as he doesn`t really go out that much. Will it make a difference to any treatment he may require and the following claim? Thanks in advance.  Timberlake Hussy Clique Member No 3  :drool:0

The Demodex may affect things as it can recur - would depend on if any subsequent problems were related at all. The grass seed is a random thing so shouldn't be a problem, eye infection probably not either but best to just give them all the info.
Cat should be fine but some companies will have it in the T&C that they need to be vaccinated.......0 -
Thanks for your reply albacookie  I think I will definately have his jabs done first and then take out insurance with axa. Better to be safe than sorry!  Timberlake Hussy Clique Member No 3  :drool:0

We have 2 mature (7ish years old) cats. Where would be a good place to look for Pet Insurance.
We live in South London. Both cats are housecats.0 -
Hoping someone on here can help me.
Got a 2ish year old jack russell cross with several food allergies and also grass and dust mites. Can we still get him insured? Obviously not for the allergies but everything else, or will all skin related things not be covered?
He's also had several ear infections in the 9 months we've had him so i'm guessing that won't be covered either?0 -
Hi
Our Jack Russell is now 7yrs old and we have been taking her to the vets for an itchy skin problem which the vet seems to think is an allergy problem from grass or food or something else we really don't know but she was scratching really badly and has no fleas etc as we do her regularly with 'Front Line' but it started in her ears also she was scratching her ear making it all inflamed and the vet said it was all to do with the same problem so he gave us steroids, ear drops and antibiotics and that lot cost us £88 so paid the first £60 with the insurance so just claimed back the £28 but it has come back twice now so we go back to him for a visit and he gives us more medication of the same but he wouldn't give her steroids the last time as he said it has happened to many times now so would have to try and find out more about what sort of allergy it is anyway as it's an on going complaint written down on the insurance as Otitis Media we can claim back for the medication but unfortunately as I had posted in a message above the insurance has gone up from £12.39 to £17.04 in January but I don't mind as I know if I change to another insurance they wouldn't accept the pre-existing condition so might as well stay where we are (Halifax Extra).
Good Luck with your pooch.
Forgot to say that she didn't have any conditions when we took out the insurance.0 -

Did your vet suggest using Malaseb Shampoo on her? It helps to stop the infection which she's likely to get when scratching.
I'm surprised you wern't given more steroids though, mine is currently on his 3rd lot of tablets and has also been given 3 injections, mine is so much calmer when he's on them. He was off all meds for 6 weeks so he could have a blood test and it was hell! His skin got so bad.
Have you been offered blood tests? I wouldn't bother going through all the stages of changing the diet, it just takes too long and it might not even work especially if its an environmental allergy. I assume you would be able to claim the cost from insurance, otherwise its going to cost you over £300!0 -
we have just had our cat insurance renewal its gone from £12.44 upto £20.86.. which is a large jump, am now going to research changing to some one else.. our cat is nearly 16 and does have a pre existing condition... we are currently with sainsburys pet care.. any one know of chaeper policies?
