I've got my dog insured now with NFU, for £213 per year, for £4k of life cover, for each condition, £50 excess. Thanks for the advice!
  • I have 2 young cats insured with Direct Line equating to about £100 a year for both. The excess is £70. They went to the vets last year 6 times with various minor things and guess what the vets charge was always less than £70 for anti imflammatory and pain killers! Should have gone for more expensive premium with lower excess.

hed, the £4k is per condition per year (or it was when I first checked them out). So its topped up every year to that amount. Its a very reasonable policy, shame they dont do it online as it does put people off when they have to ring to discuss their own circs. The other thing with NFU is they state they will not increase the excess.

hethmar, thanks, it is still £4k per condition, per year for life, and the profits of the nfu are used to reduce premiums the next year, I like mutuals.

Brilliant, I wish Id gone with them when I first got my terriers - apart from anything else, they are the longest standing animal insurers in the country - they seem to keep old fashioned values (up to now anyway :). I also liked the inclusion of earth digger hire for terriers :)

welcome laney, look at the last few postings for help :)
  • I have been online tonight looking for cheaper lifetime cover for my dog and cat. Petplan have quoted me £25 for the dog, and £10.29 renewal for my cat (not made any claims for her so far). Pet-insurance.co.uk have quoted me around £17 for the two of them - apparently lifetime cover with £4,000 limit per year (same benefits as with Petplan).

Has anyone got any experience of using this company?

    Thanks x

i am not sure petinsurance.co.uk are true 'for life' cover, i think the cover is 'per incident' therefore if your limit for vet fees is £5000, once that runs out I think you have to pay for anything beyond that yourself. i am not sure the amount for vets fees renews each year. Hethmar is good as working the tricky wording out on these blummin policies...i am sure she'll be along soon with some guidance...:)

I obtained a few quotes today after searching this wonderful thread for the past few weeks.

I've decided to go with either AXA or Petplan but I'm not too sure how much cover I need. I've detailed the quotes below and would appreciate some feedback:

Axa £20.23 per month with £50 excess. £7,000 fees paid per condition.

Petplan (i) Value Plan £15.92. £3,000 fees per condition/year. Very little else.
(ii) Budget £22.63 £4,000 fees and £75 excess.
(iii) Supreme £31.86 £12,000 fees and £75 excess.

The above quote with Petplan includes a 10% discount for the first year.

    Many thanks in advance :)
