Reading through some, not all, the pages it seems that Petplan is the only decent for life insurance? The rest are not worth bothering with if you want for life insurance, would you all say this is correct? That must be why they are the most expensive!

I'm with AXA, it's cheaper than petplan and is for lifecover.

Nope, you need to read the thread again :)

Petplan, AXA, NFU, HSBC , M and S, Halifax and some others are mentioned as being real life cover.

Well, £211-65 for Tess yesterday, so i'm now waiting to see if they pay up & if so, how much! Not sure when the Vet will send the claim off, but i'll update. She's with Axa. I'm hoping to get back more than I paid for the years premium.
  • I was with Pet plan for my 2 staff cross', I was paying out £28 for my !!!!! and £31 for my dog on life cover, £4000 per condition per year. then the renewal come thru and it had gone up to £31 for her and £35 for him... so I decided to look elsewhere and come across Petinsurance.co.uk.. I now pay £11.24 each (4weekly) on lifecover, £4000 per MONTH per CONDITION! which they have confirmed is £48,000 a year! Changed in Nov 08 -- havent had to make a claim yet - THANK "DOG" lol - Ive made a saving of over £400!!!

Hopefully they are good... if not looks like I will be on the look out again!

Get it in writing. I believe their site has deliberately misrepresented what they pay. If you click on the I next to the £4000 cover on their life policy, he doesn't say per month, where in another area it does. When you get the policy document, go over it with a fine tooth comb and have other people read it as well.

I'm with you, especially with Madoff if the news at the moment (if it looks too good to be true, it is).

That said, someone on labforums called them and they confirmed it. As you say, make sure it's in writing.

Well strangely NFU does the same, per year per condition deal.

i just checked the www.petinsurance.co.uk website and found this:

    Vet’s Fees
Cover up to £1,000 under Bronze, £3,000 under Silver and £5,000 under Gold. (Cover is provided on a per incident basis).
Many insurers limit payments for ongoing conditions to the first 12 months only. Petwise will continue to cover conditions without a time limit and, up to the policy limit, subject to cover remaining in force.

so this doesn't read too clearly...but i don't think this is true 'for life' cover i.e. they will only pay out £5000 in total for one illness/incident, over the life of the pet. if this was tru 'for life' cover the £5000 you can claim for vets fees would renew every year. you might want to check with them, the wording is ambiguous.
