Well, just called Axa & they'll pay the prescription food if I decide to have it & the extraction, just not the scale & polish I don't think, so shall be sending a claim in! I'll post on how quick they pay (If they pay!) The woman on the phone said they will more than likely cover the extraction as disease or whatever woulda caused the tooth to go manky (Ok manky was my word!)0

Yeah definitely, I have £50 fixed excess per condition per year, it's quoted to be about £230 but of course may be more or less, so I hope to get at least £50 back & if she needs this food @ £17 or £19 something a bag it should pay for that each year. Not too sure on the food, think Hills test on animals, it's something I need to discuss further!
Still, be nice to even get £50 back!0 -
Lily - AXA paid out for my cat's tooth extraction - the tooth had something called a 'lesion' on it and it had to come out as it would cause further problems. Ask your vet to be very specific as to why the tooth needs to be removed...perhaps your cat has a dental, lesion too? AXA will not pay out for scale and polish though - so make sure the vet doesn't appointion too much of the cost of the work to the S&P element of the work (my vet stated that the S&P was just £20 out of the £300 claimed for the dental work)0

Hi
Does anyone have any advice. My other half has been redundant for the last year, we are struggling on my salary which is a fraction of what his was, we are rapidly using up our savings and are cutting back frantically.
We have two pedigree dogs aged about 8 and 10 years, who had been insured up to now, costing about £25.00 each per month but we are considering what to do about their insurance. We have always considered insurance to be the sensible option; compared with a large vet bill but cannot continue to afford £50 a month. We would not be eligible for any assistance such as PDSA.
What would you do?0 -

I'm sorry to hear about your Hubby being made redundant, do you get any help with benefits? Have you had to claim at all for either Dog, you could shop around for a cheaper policy, even if it covers per condition not per year (If you have for life?) it's better than nothing. I definitely wouldn't risk having no Insurance, have you gone to the relevant boards to post your SOA? They could help to be sure you're spending as little as possible & get good deals on things which might give you more income?0 -
Hi Tigerlily
Thanks for your reply. No, we aren't entitled to any benefits until all the savings are gone but are trying to eck the savings out as long as possible. I'm not sure which are the boards to post the SOAs as we don't have any debts (yet).

I'm not too sure either, someone will know what to do! Have you claimed yet? I'm thinking any Insurance has to be better than no Insurance. I think FC (Foreign Correspondant) has a good plan with Halifax & it pays the first £1,000 for example, I can't remember how much she pays though for it, but maybe you could swap to a different level of cover or a different company?
The SOA thing people may see areas where you can save but idk, you might already have covered them! Could you reduce elsewhere like through food or something? Give them a cheaper brand or anything like that for now? You might be best to start a thread to ask for help with this & reducing other Pet Related costs maybe? I'm sure the Mods won't mind, more people may look then.
Sorry if you've thought of all of this!0 -
hi there
you could get a quote out of interest from a few pet insurance sites eg. sainsbury's, m+s, more than, petplan etc - i'm not recommending these, you can see what their monthly costs are and check what you are covered for. you can also get cashback thru quidco - and do it per dog so that the 2nd one gets an extra discount and so you get cashback for each policy:D.
people normally post their soas on the DFW board (there is a sticky there with a template), but it's a great idea for all of us. you may be able to cutback in areas you hadn't thought of or get a better deal on something.0 -
Trouble is your dogs are coming to an age where you may start to use the insurance more. Have you visited the vets with them for any conditions? If so any other insurer will exclude those conditions and anything vaguely related to them
£25 a month each is an awful lot - are they particularly large dogs/you live in a city?0
