Can you visit imageshack.us?
Anyway, I posted wikipedia links in my last post that have pictures of the different cables.0 -
I will have to try fitting the hardrive later tonight or tomorrow as its my grandsons birthday today and hes having a party so I have to get ready for that now.
I'll be glad when its done as I've got 3 old computers all in bits and 2 massive old monitors all strewn around my bedroom and cables keyboards and mice everywhere so its hard to get round it all.
Thankyou for your help once againThanx

I have been trying to fit this hardrive and I'm just stuck on some things so wanted to ask some advise if possible.
The long grey ribbon was connected to the motherboard with the end blue bit but halfway down the ribbon is another grey connector so I've swapped them so the middle grey bit is directly to the motherboard leaving the end one spare this should be ok for fitting to the slave hardrive shouldnt it? I can see the rom drives are connected this way and it says they are master and slave so I guessed this is the way the drives should be connected too?
I also swapped the white jumper leads around because there were no spare ones on the one already connected to the master drive only the 2 that were in use (for the floppy and the master drive) but there was a redundant lead set with 3 jumpers on so I've now connected those up to the floppy drive and master drive now leaving one spare, would that be right to use for the slave drive?
The settings on the drive for slave etc I just wanted to check as I'm not sure what it should be?
On the slave drive am I right in assuming I have to take off the little white things on the pins to correspond with the setting it should be? because I have tried various variations of this but it either wont boot up or says the master drive has failed even though it still lists it as a drive on start up.
It says on the slave hardrive 16 heads, 15 heads, 32gb clip, autospin disable, which one of those should work? I have not taken the master drive out to see what the settings are on that yet as I'll have to take the other side off and just wanted to know if I really have to do that or can I try without.
By the way the white jumper that I think goes into the slave hardrive is REALLY hard to take out once out in. I've had to take it out again because it made the master drive fail with it connectedThanx

I've done it its in now!
Thats just great! it might be an old machine but it will last me a bit of time anyway.
I would have liked to have made it the master drive as its bigger but I don't think I can anyway because I took the back off the tower and its totally sealed up so you can't get in, the screws arent screws they are kind of sealed no head screws. Because its like that I cant get in to unscrew the main hardrive to change any settings on there from master to slave. I havent even screwed in this slave drive yet its just propt up outside. I think I will have to screw in the front ones then either leave the other side unscrewed or try and stretch my hand from the front up the back to screw it in a little bit if possible.
Its a TIME computer tower its probably because its an old one that the tower is made that way but its crazy its got slots for upgrading but how the hell you supposed to get to the screws! I even took the front off to try get to the main drive settings there but that is sealed too.
Can I make this sata drive into an external drive?Thanx
