House just been valued

My parents have about 1 million quid in equity, but no way would they be relaxed about losing 30K! They bought their house in the late 1950's for 4K, I believe, and have always lived a very frugal, unostentatious lifestyle. They paid off the mortgage a long time ago, but as it's their home and they aren't planning on moving, its value is meaningless to them.
30K is 30K however. A lot of money.
If I had £1M equity in a house and my son had not purchased (but wanted to) I would MEW or downsize and buy one for him. He may as well benefit from some of it while I was around.0 -
Agree, life is just too short....... There are only two definites in life - death and taxes!0

I would not turf my elderly parents out so they could give me their dosh to buy a house!
I might borrow off them in a rising market - they have offered - but no way would I consider doing it in a falling market - for both our sakes. It's a lousy time to be a FTB and it's also a lousy time to lend money to FTB'S, as the banks are finding......0 -
Like I said, entirely irrelevant. It still conveys the meaning.
Absolutely, but someone who writes a sentence about other people's spelling should try to ensure the spelling within that sentence is correct. But that's only my opinion. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -
Guys,

It's impossible to be ostentatious when you're frugal, Carol
If your parents aren't hard-up for a bob or two they must simply be mean. No-one lives a FRUGAL lifestyle unless they're short of money - or are parsimonious.
Many frugal people are often frugal with their affection too - which can have a detrimental effect on their offspring. I hope YOU haven't been affected by their ways.

bollox most people i know who have money dont show it and never have to show it..i am not too badly off but you would not know by our life style that YOU SEE ..the people who like to show wealth it is usually a mirage built on debt and the outward signs are there for all to see but they are wannabe wealthy s..:rotfl:It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Sorry bryanb - spelt is a perfectly acceptable altenative spelling of 'spelled'. Like learnt/learned - both fine.
If you're going to criticise someone for criticising someone else's spelling, you really should check your corrections first!
Apologies - You're right (again)This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0
