Oh you silly doom monger, now you're using facts to back up your argument. Don't you know that's cheating?
LOL, thanks! I must say, though, that drops in asking prices don't tell you much, as the properties may have been grossly over-priced in the first place. Actual sale prices is where to look.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
good luck Maisie11 hope it works out for you with the house sale - I would say undercut the competition though and you should hopefully get some viewers and offers.0

All,
Thanks for the kind words Tintaja. Obviously I agree with what you say. Mrs Titchcombe seems to have an issue with boarding schools which is not what this post is about at all. I am really grateful for the advice some people have posted such as not leaving it too late to market our house. There are always some who have chips on their shoulders about certain things and she appears quite angry. I get the impression she has no children. Once you have children your outlook becomes very different.
Just to clarify for everyone. We have two boys age 6 and 11. It is the 11 year old who has just started boarding. The 6 year old is far far too young.0 -
hmm, where do we start, lack of discipline, lack of achievement, lack of expectation, lack of facilities, small number of children of parents that couldn't care less about education, turns nice children into criminals (some schools), etc.
I've got to disagree. My school had very high expectations, strict discipline, excellent facilities, excellent results in the league tables.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
Maisie, I would put it on the market. The sort of buyer you are looking at isn't going to be a quick sale and it could take months anyway. Surely you could look at putting some stuff in storage & renting for awhile.0

i really hope i am wrong but i think you might have missed the boat.....good luck and dont forget the money you knock off was money you never had in the first place....It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
What a lot of the non-homeowners on this board fail to understand is that buyers who are upgrading or downgrading (and have a huge mount of equity in their homes) are not particularly fussed about gaining/losing what to them is a small amount of money..
It's all relative. A person buying a place valued at,say, £180k is obviously going to be concerned about losing £30k - but people who are dealing in properties in the higher bracket do not see such a loss as significant.
To them it's peanuts - and they know one day their house will be worth MUCH more than it is now. That £30 odd K will seem like small change in comparison to the massive gain they will make in 10 years' from now.
No-one is going to be prepared to hang around upside down in the hope they'll save - what to them - is just a few bob. They want to enjoy their new home NOW! Put their stamp on their new home and enjoy living in a beautiful place.
It's worth noting that it's the trashy overpriced properties that have had steep falls - beautiful, coveted properties ALWAYS hold their price well.
That's why the Russians are still paying over the odds for multi-million mansions; they want to ENJOY their lives NOW - and they know that in years' to come the property will rise and rise in value. That insignificent extra price they pay to buy it now is of no sgnificance in the grand scheme of things.:money:0 -

You are completely wrong...
... I'm a male!
I know boarding schools were not in the OP but they were mentioned so I gave my opinion which was jumped on defensivley.
We are all entitled to our opinion (within reason)0
