Nice to know you bargain hunters have had your noses to the ground (or freezer) whilst shopping for a Tesco treat in the 'freezer cabinets'. I hope the food inside the cabinets was colder than your nose ,as it certainly wasn't in my local Tesco superstore about 2pm on Christmas eve ! Having forgotten something I was delegated to fetch it while my other half continued shopping When I got back she told me about the 'frozen chips' she was going to put in our trolley but as they were completely thawed, put them back and told an assistant. We 'eventually' got to the checkout and while waiting our turn, she noticed shoppers still had access to these freezers.I said they've probably removed the thawed items but other half said they've not had time, there were 'loads' of bags.Curiosity got the better of me and went to see ,yes she was right a long length of the chest freezers was full of 'frozen chips and other veg' limper than a shoelace. An assistant came walking along the checkouts inviting every one to go down the other end as they'd opend more tills .I pointed out the continued availability of unfit food but no action to stop it was more important and as we were next in the queue would wait. She told us she would get it sorted but continued to ask everyone at each checkout if they wanted to go down the other end .When she came back I asked why nothing had 'been sorted' and told her in my opinion Tesco or its staff were more interested in taking money off us faster, than the prospect of giving us food poisoning ! Then and only then did she call over her 'mike' to customer services who put a call out for someone 'fix it'. I wish we could say problem 'fixed' but by the time we'd gone through the checkout another 5 or 6 mins. must have gone by(half an hour since we reported it )and on walking to the exit noticed nothing had been cordend off and people were still putting it into their baskets except those I had warned. So those of you who who had a bit of an upset stomach and shopped in the LE5 1BJ area might just want to grope your chips and greens a bit more next time ! Happy New Year !0

Welcome to MSE Print
Probably not the right thread for this, since it is the mega reduction thread, but your warning is a good reminder, esp at this time of year when we over indulge, bugs abound, and we all cram more in our fridge and freezer than we really should.
I have noticed Hamilton store seem to have been messing around with their freezers for a good month or so before Christmas - whole aisles of freezers were emptied and frozen food in trolleys etc. it was impossible to find anything.
This was when I was hunting for the BBQ mega reductions that many reported.
If they have been having trouble with the freezers all this time, maybe they need to replace the whole lot ?
This may explain why my cheap organic chips ( bought from Beaumont Leys) tasted awful. Maybe they had been defrosted in store beforehand.
Did anyone else think their cheap chips not worth even the 50p ?
I will check next time I venture down the freezer section how frozen all the stuff is.....but it may be a while as I want to try and empty my freezer some time this year - cannot remember when I last saw the bottom :rolleyes:0 -
How weird - I went to Tesco Westwood Cross a couple of days ago and thought to check out the cheap chips - but the entire aisle of frozen chips was empty! Clearly they are having problems with freezer settings too.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0

Shredded Wheat Bitesize, 750g box, HALF PRICE at just £1.05p (normal price £2.11)0

It's highly unlikely that chips or veg that have been frozen, defrosted and then frozen again will cause food poisoning. Potatoes and vegetables are generally not foods that are commonly associated with foodpoisoning.
At worst, the food might not taste as good as you would expect, so the quality might have been affected. Also, you're not likely to eat these foods without heating them through and this should kill off any bugs that are present.0 -
