  • Hello everyone fab monkeys! I haven't posted on here for ages and I'm itching to do another sock monkey tonight but can't decide whether it's too late to start! I'm feeling too lazy to drag my sewing machine downstairs :o

  • Ive made a couple of attempts at sock monkeys and although they look okish from a distance, up close the limbs are very badly attached as the stitching is so visable. How does everyone get theirs looking so neat. Id love to give them as presents for xmas but just cant quite get them spot on! :-)

A lot depends on the choice of socks.
Patterned socks don't show the stitching as much, and chenille hide it completely.
Try different textures and patterns, and sew with the smallest neatest stitches you can manage.

    Attempted an elephant last night.
I ought to have used a naff pair of socks to test run rather than mutilate a perfectly splendid stripey pair.
End result was it needed more surgery than I was qualified to carry out so I pulled out all his stuffing & he is now in sock heaven.

    Hi

Here is the thread on sock dogs. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2063049 I also used the basics of the dog to make a sock zebra.

On my blog there is a sort of pattern (i am not very good) for a sock dinosaur. (hope its alright to post this.) http://nuttybabescrafts.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

I have made cats and rabbits but they are kind of improvising on the basic sock monkey as its just ears that are different really! there are pictures in the other sock creatures bit of my blog.

But other people have made elephants and pigs. i am sure they will be along to help soon.
