Pennib - my kids keep asking for stuff! the alien was for my daughter as she told me one day walking to school that an alien tripped her over so she wanted me to make her one to keep so she wont get tripped again (and still not got round to making one each for the boys) and ds1 wants a superhero sock monkey for his birthday. ds2 wants a crochet dinosaur but not seen one i like that i can do yet! keeps me out of mischief!! :P

Kisto - they are great!! I love it that I keep seeing how nice the socks i have for sock monkeys look good so i really need to get myself sorted and start making more!
  • Thanks Nutty, just had a look at your blog, your monkeys are really great!! Im still in the middle of my first and stuggling! think I will be needing ALOT of practise before I make any as presents.

Think I have sown the nose/mouth too close to the top and i really struggled to do it, so its abit wonky. Ive struggled to do 'invisible' sowing!! Up to now Ive done the legs/body, tail and nose. think I will tackle the arms and ears tomorrow now!

nuttybabe...your children must have their bedroom full of great toys. It's nice that your children are loving all your makes.
The alien one is great, how did you go about making your own pattern up? Did you write it down as you went along or
make it up as you go along?

I can never go past a sock rack now without having a good old rummage!

Baileysmom - thanks. I never put a picture of my first sock monkey on my blog!!! he is called fred and is staying in dd's bedroom at the moment but he was not a complete success!!!! :p I think you need to remember (and dh has said this to me when i have said the nose or ears are wonky) the fact that they arent perfect makes them lovable and none of mine are the same. I think even if i used the same sock to make a few they would all come out different!! :p

pennib - i am the same!! every time i go into town i HAVE to look at socks. infact, even if i pop into asda i have a quick look!!! :rotfl:

No, I didnt write it down. I started to but after i unpicked it a few times i gave up!! i kind of had an idea of what i wanted and tried to make it look like that as i was crocheting! if that makes sense! think thats why i am putting off making another cos i dont think it will come out the same!! luckily the kids are young enough that they do actually like everything i make!

I cant wait until october. I am planning on finishing the witch sock monkey before 1st october and she will be staying with us until halloween and playing tricks on the kids!!! :rotfl: like and evil otis the elf sock monkey who came for xmas!!

Dh thinks i am totally mad!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Nuttybabe. I am the same when it comes to making something, not writting things down and then a couple of months later I wished I had.
You will have to put a photo of a witch monkey up that would be intrieging (sp)
Well I think your dh thinks your a nice mad same as mine!
A friend knitted a pink panther for the girls and it lived on the end of the bed for years, and he was a squashy, long, and quirky!
