Thanks! The hats I cast on 28 stitches and knit 2, purl 2 until it measures about 25cm then I fold it in half so I've got rectangle & sew the sides up. When I sew the pom poms on, I give them a good tug to pull the corners in abit..hope that sort of makes sense! The scarves I cast on 8 stitches, knit 2 purl 2 until its about 50cm (for a ladies size sock).
The pom poms, the outer circle of card is a bit over an inch in diameter, for the middle circle I draw around a 5p piece! I use a wool needle to wind the wool around so I can fill it as much as possible.

    Hope that helps!

These are the instructions I used for the hats ~ it was suggested that you use 4mm needles I used 4.5 mm.

  • Oh my goodness, I have just discovered this brilliant thread!!! I started making sock monkies a few months ago, and am now running up a batch of baby ones. Wanted to ask though, what do you all use for stuffing? I have been using toy stuffing which is like candyfloss white stuff and packing it quite firm, but I notice it still isnt as firm as others I have seen. I have squeezed a few monkeys other people have done and they almost felt as if they had that memoryfoam mattress stuffing in them that curves around your shape! (Im sure they didnt, but thats what it felt like!).
Im knitty, Im nutty, but I dont know anyone called Nora. :p

Not sure what everyone else uses but I use cushion stuffing, I buy the cheap cushions from the market and cut em up. They have to have the safety standard on though, can't remember the BS number.

  • Great idea Kandipandi! Does that work out cheaper than a bag of stuffing? Must check what I paid last time for a bag!

Buy either a cushion or pillow from the £ shop. It has the right BS number on and works out much cheaper than stuffing.
