The best one we had was Fiat. We had a 10 year old Sciento which was the semi-auto version (basically a clutchless car with gearstick). Bought it for £1000 with less than 10K on the clock at 10 years old. A few months after buying it we noticed it was getting impossible to get it into first gear. This got worse and worse until one day when driving it the car stuck in neutral - very dangerous. We then started looking on the net to see if this was a known problem and found out it had happened to others, but that Fiat failed to accept it was a design fault. However we discovered that other people had been told it would cost £500 5to fix, with no guarantee it would be a permanent fix -with some people having to spend several lots of £500.
The only guaranteed fix was to fully convert the car to manual, which costed over £1000 - more than we paid for the car.
We did some more research and found one person who had managed to get Fiat to agree to pay for this conversion, also on a 10 year old car - and who had involved Trading Standards (although I don't think this actaully helped the case much).
So we wrote a very carefully worded letter to Fiat explaining what happened, why it was dangerous, that we knew of the other person with the same age of car who's had the free conversion, quoted the name of the person from trading standards (and copied them into the letter), and also stating we would not accept a free repair, and we wanted the free conversion. To be honest we weren't expecting much from them after the first letter and expected a battle.
However 2 weeks later we got a phone call from Fiat saying which garage would we like to get the free conversion done at!!!!
We were amazed, as was the garage when we took it in that Fiat gave in so easily, but I guess it shows that the right letter gets the desired results. Since then 2 further people have also got free conversions we are aware of after contacting us for advice.
Incidentially the car was fine afterwards and was as good as new.

Got £250 in Waitrose vouchers for a ruined Xmas dinner. Used them to buy my laptop!

Recently got a free meal and choccies from the manager because of poor service and meal at Carluccio's.

Free replacement of Doc Martins for hubby after less than a year's wear the sole came away - took back to Brantano's and told them what Doc Martins said and showed credit card statement showing purchase from Brantano 10 mths ago (no receipt) and they changed them without query.

Tesco were doing an offer for 20% PC's, we asked why it wasn't honoured anymore and was told the offer finished 3 days earlier. I pointed out the POS material hanging from the store entrance roof stating 20% off PC's but was still told not getting discount. Asked to speak to dept manager, he wouldn't budge. Asked for store manager, and dept manager came back, very arsy but said "right which one do you want"- easier for Tesco to give in than argue, especially as they had left banners up. But by the time we left the store the banners were down!!

Mum got mugged in Asda, they were very apologetic and sent her a lovely bunch of flowers. She said they looked after her well (she's in her 60's and disabled).

Got free flowers when the ones I ordered via post arrived half dead.

Got free replacement blueberry plant when mine died after 2 mths from Thompson and Morgan.

Got £150 compensation from BT after having to wait 6mths for a new phone line (long story!).

Got £150 compensation from Nationwide when they "lost" money from house sale for 2 weeks.

Loads of vouchers back from Tesco for gone off products.

    Hi

Do you mind if I ask more details about the Waitrose one? Was it a delivery problem on their behalf etc?
Only asking as I recently planned a huge dinner party all consumables bought from waitrose and I spent a small fortune! Ideally, I should've tested some of the things before I went all out; as some of the produce was terrible!
I didn't think much of it at the time; different tastes and all but does anyone think its worth complaining?

Similarly DD went on a school trip to Alton towers for £20 last day of term they were there for a short while in comparison to how long the park is open for but most of the water rides were closed due to some sort of power failiure... and opened later on when it was almost time to leave. She was so gutted!
Would it again be worth complaining about this?

My waitrose one wasn't a delivery issue, it was due to poor quality products I bought in store. But I have found waitrose more sympathetic towards complaints, especially when a special occassion is involved. I've heard of times when over Xmas if you contact waitrose with a complaint about off food they'll make the local store manager take replacement products directly to the customer's house!

With regards to the theme park, they probably have something on the website or brochure which states that not all rides may be open when you come, but if there were loads closed on the day I'd still complain anyway, they can only say yes or not, so nothing ventured, nothing gained!
