The Great ‘Home Heating’ Hunt: Do you know cheaper ways for LPG and oil

We are experiencing the highest price for domestic fuel. Does anyone know how oil compares against gas? My dilema is this: our oil boiler is due to be replaced. Do we take the plunge and switch to gas (of which there is none presently in the house, but it is in the road) or buy a new replacement oil boiler?0

for a general home imo you don't need heating, winters in the uk are very mild. pre 1970s central heating or home heating wasn't very common.
i would suggest some try to not use any fuel in the winter months for heating, just use more appropriate clothing instead.
As for gas, we pay some 30p a liter for propane but buy thousands o tonnes. Unlikely you would be able to get it cheaper unless you caped when prices where cheaper.0 -
I got a quote thru BoilerJuice yesterday afternoon, and by yesterday evening it had gone up by about 3 p a litre!Ooh, I've gotta little star! What's that for then?!!0

Im sorry if this is a repeat this thread is very long ... seems to me (and others) is that the heat we pay for must be kept in the right place for as long as poss adding to efficiency - we live in a very old cottage and have 3 tips ...1 -automatic door closer things (!) BRILLIANT . 2- mini (catalyic) portable LPG 'stove' to be used in any room -no heat up any chimneys! 3 - due to insulation difficulties we are just about to try a thermally insulating powder that you add to paint that reflcts heat back into the room rather than allowing it through the wall - yet to see how this works ... thanks for the tip re a timer on the immersion way back ..done that today.0

I'd love to have mains gas, but not got any around here - only recently on mains drains, and that was pure luck, builder doing garage found main drains etc and connected us up! Most of my neighbours still on septic tanks. We do have log/coal burners, we also live in very old cottage, way out in the sticks, but luckily the thick walls keep it relatively cool in summer and warm in winter. Kerosene a real rip off right now! Is Boiler Juice a subsidiary of Petrol Prices? Seem to remember that it is.Ooh, I've gotta little star! What's that for then?!!0

Actually I think I might suggest that we have a buying person in our village... it's a decent size village and everyone is stuck with Oil (apart from a few who have gas by bottle...) hmmmm an article for our village magazine is coming up me thinks
I'm not gonna volunteer as I'm not organised enough but some volunteer or other with too much time on their hands are BOUND to want to do it
