If you can get a deal on a Travelodge like the £29 or £19 per night go with them. If you can't and will have to pay full whack I'd rather stop in a Premier Inn. They seem a little bit nicer.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • definately Premier Inn! all the travelodges I have stayed in have been awful!

Premier Inn-Generally better quality and the more expensive, but you run the risk of bumping into Lenny Henry :D

Travelodge-More likely to get the bargains as low as £19 and I have managed 3 adults in a family room several times saving even more money.

So if money isn't an object I'd say Premier Inn everytime :j

You can get a refund at premier inn, but they keep your name on file and youll be blacklisted if you take the p**s. They have a nationwide computer system & check you against your credit card no., aliases, and also, you wont get a cash refund even if you pay cash, they wont have a cash "float" on them most of the time. You get issued a check from head office and it takes up to 6 weeks, usually. I was a premer inn general manager for a while, I know all the tricks!!!

Travelodge does cheaper rooms & has more low price specials, but they can cancel your room & not tell you. Theyre pretty cheap and cheerful. Premier inn always has a restaurant next to it, but theyll mostly be whitbread pubby ones like beefeater, etc. PI has a number for a live receptionist on site, most times TL do not. The system to get a room isnt that great either, but they have drastically cheaper prices on random days.

If youre staying at PI over the weekend, they might do a deal for a sunday stay... traditionally the occ rate is much, much lower on Sun, so we were always told to do what we could to increase sales.

I would say the MAIN diff is that as far as the Pi's in glos/worcs go, some have been refurbished with the pattern/ colors you see on the TV commercial, all white, purple, & clean. Unfortunately, some PI's havent been refurbed in 5-10 years, so youll get a peach color scheme, pink sheets, really nasty shower curtains & oil paintings that will give you flashbacks from 1992!!

There are lots of PI's in the area, you defo need to call them & ask when they have been refurbed, & if they have air con. Some of them will if they were part of "premier lodge" which was the hotel chain that whitbread took over as part of their aquisition in early 2000's. TL usually doesnt have air con. Also, PI & TL both dont allow you to open the windows more than 3", this window restrictor is due to someone jumping out the window & the family suing... so if you dont have a/c you will not be enjoying yourself!

Ask lots of questions, that what I would say!

Strange how you have straight away associated all refunds with some kind of deception..

In my case I had no central heating and a bath tap that wouldn't turn off.
They are welcome to check me on the computer as much as they like.

We had a very hot room when there was a problem with the heating.
We tried opening the window but it was a very noisy motorway nearby.
We asked for a different room but they were full.
We got a fan from a VERY grumpy man (who was probably sick to death of multiple complaints).

After having given them the opportunity to put things right I think we were due a refund.

The £19 Travelodges are cheap for a reason. They are located on Motorway services and other out of area locations and not convenient. I prefer staying in PTIs but would slum it in a Travelodge if I had to.

No offense meant by the language regarding the refund,

at my location I had 3 other PI's nearby who had a/c & we always had people complain (and get subsequent refunds) because of this, even tho we let them know that we didnt have it. If it wasnt that, the refunds were because of the window restrictors or that we didnt have wi-fi like TL. All of these things were mentioned on the website, brochures, said to themselves if they booked internally, etc.

Everytime I asked head office to refund them, every time I was told they were serial complainers. Im not saying that everyone who complains is suspicious, as a GM I did everything I could to help people, but some people do really take the p**s...If they didnt, there wouldnt be a record of those dodgy people.

One of the reasons I quit, people telling me that it was my personal fault!!!

I find the fluorescent lighting in the newly designed PLs awful ,especially the stupid flexible torch like wall lights. They are ridiculous, I haven't stayed in one since they tried to fob me off in their reply to my letter, and, of course, now the Lennie Henry adverts infest my TV, I have even more reason not to stay!

We have stayed in T.L. at Cheltenham, Barrow in Furness, Stowmarket & Eastbourne during the last 2 months, and have had no complaints about any of them. We always ring up just before hand and ask if we can have a quiet room, thus removing the problem with noise from busy roads. However we didn't at Eastbourne and were given a room on the front with sea view which also had triple glazing, so again no problem with the noise. The most I paid for any of the rooms was £29 per night, so certainly value for money.

I have stayed in Premier Inns, but only when I was working and as I am an ex Whitbread Employee and shareholder, do get a discount off them, but they still work out much more expensive than Travel Lodge. I would say go for Travel Lodge if you want a base which you are not going to spend a lot of time in, but if you want a little bit more luxury, then go for Premier Inn. :j :j :D:D
