Hi everyone,
6 of us (4 adults + 2 teenagers) are travelling to Gloucestershire / Worcestershire. We will be sleeping one night and having had a look around Premier Inn and Travelodge seem to have the same kind of prices...
We have never stayed at either, could anyone tell me which of the two tends to be nicer?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Friends of ours came to visit and have stayed in a Premier Inn for the first time having previously used Travelodges. Not a very scientific comparison as only comparing one of each but they preferred the Premier Inn.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

They are pretty similar but you get 2 little biscuits with your tea and coffee tray at a Premier Inn :rotfl:
Premier are a better quality - Travelodge are cheap and cheerful.
Premier usually have a pub next door for evening meals / breakfast.
Premier supply shower suds / shampoo, Travelodge supply a bar of really nasty soap.
DO NOT get the breakfast bag from Travelodge - it's not worth the money at all.
If you do go with Premier then you can get a tiny amount of cashback on Quidco.
(can you tell I stay away from home a lot!)Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
If there is anthing wrong with your premier inn,you can get a refund.(subject to terms and conditions).0

PTI are far superior to Travelodges. Generally PTIs are newer and located in better positions with proper restaurants. Travelodges are generally situated next to Motorways, A roads and Little Chefs. Some Travelodges are so old that they are awful. We stayed at one near Chesterfield and the creaking from the floorboards above was so bad.The man without a signature.0

If you can get a saver room (£29) at a Travelodge you could save quite a bit.
But generally Premier Travel Inn are considered to be better......0 -
You can get a refund at premier inn, but they keep your name on file and youll be blacklisted if you take the p**s. They have a nationwide computer system & check you against your credit card no., aliases, and also, you wont get a cash refund even if you pay cash, they wont have a cash "float" on them most of the time. You get issued a check from head office and it takes up to 6 weeks, usually. I was a premer inn general manager for a while, I know all the tricks!!!
Travelodge does cheaper rooms & has more low price specials, but they can cancel your room & not tell you. Theyre pretty cheap and cheerful. Premier inn always has a restaurant next to it, but theyll mostly be whitbread pubby ones like beefeater, etc. PI has a number for a live receptionist on site, most times TL do not. The system to get a room isnt that great either, but they have drastically cheaper prices on random days.
If youre staying at PI over the weekend, they might do a deal for a sunday stay... traditionally the occ rate is much, much lower on Sun, so we were always told to do what we could to increase sales.
I would say the MAIN diff is that as far as the Pi's in glos/worcs go, some have been refurbished with the pattern/ colors you see on the TV commercial, all white, purple, & clean. Unfortunately, some PI's havent been refurbed in 5-10 years, so youll get a peach color scheme, pink sheets, really nasty shower curtains & oil paintings that will give you flashbacks from 1992!!
There are lots of PI's in the area, you defo need to call them & ask when they have been refurbed, & if they have air con. Some of them will if they were part of "premier lodge" which was the hotel chain that whitbread took over as part of their aquisition in early 2000's. TL usually doesnt have air con. Also, PI & TL both dont allow you to open the windows more than 3", this window restrictor is due to someone jumping out the window & the family suing... so if you dont have a/c you will not be enjoying yourself!
Ask lots of questions, that what I would say!0 -

I have a £10 mini tower fan that I take with me when I stay in these lodges. Normally put it next to the slit opening in the window and pump air in!The man without a signature.0 -
We only stay in PTI after really bad experiences with TL.
The beds are bigger too, and the new family rooms have increased in size recently due to H&S and the heaters. The decor is far better and always clean.
We have stayed in PTIs all over the country and all the same standard, whereas TL is a bit hit & miss.
The breakfasts are brilliant value as children go free and with a full buffet style available it's great for everyone.
Every PTI we have stayed in has had a fan in the room already.
Last year we stayed for a weekend break in Blackpool and the PTI did a deal for the two nights and included discounts for attractions in the area including the pleasure beach.0 -
we have just come back from staying in a travelodge (with my sister who stayed in the hilton at watford) i would say basically he same once you get in the room, its the exras out of you room your paying for.our room was the same as the hilton that didnt have air con neither but did have flovoured tea bags!
we paid £9 a night for travelodge and it was a bargain(hemel hempstaed) there was any where to eat nearby but we ate before we got back to the room, there was always a receptionist on duty even late at night, and the rooms were cleaned every day.the 4th night we stayed at sudbury t/l, which was fantastic, it was brand new, very clean loads of staff, nice restaurnat and bar.the breakfast was buffet style which was nice and the room was excellent for £29.nice plasma tv with freeview, nice decor and very clean.
i havent stayed in a priemer inn, as they are a bit more expensive, ad we only use them just to sleep in, so at £9 and £29 anight tl every time!0 -
As someone that likes very nice hotels, I would not even enter a Travelodge by choice, but find PTI's surprisingly comfortable.
I don't have any experience of the area that you are looking at - have you checked www.tripadvisor.co.uk?Gone ... or have I?0
