Hi everyone,
I am not new to frugal living, but I am new here. I live alone and work part-time in a rental house that is too expensive for me now that my son has left home.
I am currently saving up for the deposit on a new, smaller place with a friendly landlord who will allow me to keep a dog (mine refused my pleading)
As well as my day job I also am a painter and exhibit and sell paintings locally, which I love. I paint the beautiful Scottish landscape which I enjoy exploring when I am well enough to (I have a relapsing/remitting illness that sometimes gets in the way of that).
I am looking forward to getting to know everyone here!31.5/1000 -
Hi, I'm 25 and engaged. I have 1 leopard gecko named Mouth, 2 gerbils a hamster and a male cat called Ollie (his old and grumpy).
I have a few mental health problems, and was really rock bottom 4 years ago, but have come such a long way since then. I like to shop around for the best deals ie gas, leccy, etc. Were stuck with sky as were in flats and can't have cable tv, so it's satelite for us, and Sky was the best deal for TV, unlimited internet and land line. I've capped the phone bill to alert me when I make calls over £20, and will also at some point next week call sky to see if they can give me a better offer.
I am Dy (goes to wikipedia) dyslexic, so if my spelling sucks, I appoligise.
I try to recycle EVERYTHING I can, even down to junk mail/bills. I shred them and use it as bedding for the small furries, and same with loo rolls too. Any old wine bottles with screw top lids I'm saving to use for christmas to give mulled wine in, same as jam jars, etc to give chutneys in.
I love cooking, and actually prep all my veg I buy par boil and freeze.... well I do if I'm not in lazy mode.
My biggest down fall is grocery shopping, for the two of us we are on £100 pounds wich lasts us 2 weeks. So MUST lower bill as we really can't afford it.Feb Grocery challenge: £120/£3000 -
I originally joined to enter a comp ( which i didnt win) and didnt look around the site much. All changed xmas 2011 when we realised our spending was in freefall. We have a car loan till summer 2014 and a bike loan till summer 2013, 2 at uni and the other hopefully off to uni sept 2012. From jan 1st 2012 plan is to live on my salary and use OH salary for loans and supporting children. Jan went well and ended in black but boiler broke down. Bill arrived today but this has made me doubly determined to have something of my salary left end of feb. Both in very full time jobs with no extra pay for the overtime always required so unlikely to be able to bring in more dosh, so looking at ways of cuttin down. Adding new challenge each month. Last month i started grocery challenge, this month added NSD challenge.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hi and welcome. Love Scotland and it's landscapes. Hoping that we can get up there this year for camping again. We were up about 2 years back and the brood loved it.PeanutButterJellyTime wrote: »Hi, I'm 25 and engaged. We also have three Chihuahuas
Ooooh, I have 2 chihuahuas and a chi x mini daschshund!!:D They have been living the frugal life for quite a while with home made dog biscuits and raw food! (going to be getting their second freezer this year so I can really make the most of bulk buying!!LOL).
I thought I should join up here when I kept googling "can I freeze----" and being directed here. Im in my late *ahem* thirties and working part time (through choice as I like my sanity!!). Luckily I jumped in the housing market about 6mths before I wouldnt be able to afford it so I have a nice little house which is drafty, leaky and appears to have been plastered about 100 yrs ago!:D
Im trying to live a simpler life and will be avidly reading any cooking or household hints. Also planning on trying to utilise my tiny garden to grow some of my own produce....maybe just some salad and potatoes this year. Maybe I can save some money along the way to spruce up my house too. Looking forward to sharing tips!!0 -
Hello Rubberbiscuit! Sounds like your dogs are well loved and cared for - and how clever that you manage to do it frugally too.
I bet there are tons of ways you can spruce up your house. My first suggestion is to scrounge all the white/cream emulsion from everyone you know and mix it all up into one big bucket to paint that old plaster with!
This is a great forum and I bet you get tons of tips and help here - I love it!31.5/1000 -
Thought I'd post on here since I've been posting in the forum now.
25 years young, live with my boyfriend of 5 years and two house rabbits. We rent his Mum's house which we are eventually going to try and buy. Trying to get myself and life organised as I've had a tough time with mental health problems, my job as a kitchen assistant/waitress is not safe at the moment either so that's another reason for me being on here. OH is an ex-chef turned climbing instructor and we're both on low wages, but are happy with our lot, I do have a degree which now feels like a waste of time especially for the 3000 student loan I have!
Love this forum, I look forward to my breaks from work so I can come back and have a read through the new posts. Sometimes I think I'm older than 25 hahaHouse deposit 15/15k hurrah!
