Hi, hope I am in the right place, just wanted to introduce myself, as I have lurked for a long time, but feel this year coming I must be more proactive and get sorted!:D I have two kids, 14 and 8, 2 dogs, a cat, and chickens, and a very messy house...My OH and myself have recently started a business so I am now in the shop during school hours. I wasn't very good at keeping house before, but everything is slipping now! I am determined to cook from scratch as much as poss from now on, or once the freezer is empty of preprepared stuff! I have enough kitchen gadgets and cookbooks to stock a shop and my new Panasonic breadmaker is on its way for xmas:j, hope i'll be able to get lots of help and support this next year!

Hi cpt :) There's loads of help here, including the Flylady thread, and "My Home is a Mess", home of the Messies! It's very chatty and supportive there, and it just so happens we're having our Xmas Night in Round Two tonight if you (or anyone else reading!) wants to join us!

thanks! I'll pop over and have a look:)
  • hmm..bout time i joined in the fun..

im in my late twenties, married with a toddler. i live 'down south' where house prices, though falling, are still far too expensive. we are saving our deposit and looking to buy at the end of 2012, beginning of 2013 hopefully but all will depend on finding something reasonably priced. we may just keep saving for a bigger deposit. i work shifts, and reduced my hours after baby came along. i miss having the extra money when i was working full time and but i think ive got a pretty good balance as i get to spend a lot of time with DS which a lot of working mums miss. DH also works shifts so between us we manage most of the childcare. have been trawling the forum for a while now, mainly DFW, we dont actually have any debts thankfully, but found the threads on there good for getting tips on cutting back. but am loving the OS boards now! we are not big spenders and already spend quite a lot les than many people i know, but feel we could do more to get deposit together more quickly.

long term plan is to buy a home, reduce hours more and more children!!

    Hello everyone!

I used to frequent these boards quite a while back but took a little break this year as things have been so busy :o but am back again and looking forward to getting back in the swing of things :)

So much has happened this year, I won't even know where to start! We had an extension built (omg, the mess over such a long period of time!!!), my role in work changed twice then to be made redundant on 15th December... Oh and DH gave up a day job to do night work - boy is that taking a while
    to get used to!)

So, plans for the now? I have a new job already, just need to get the paper work done and a start date sorted, I have a fairly okay redundancy pay off (I was at my last place for 10 years!) so will be paying off my new kitchen and one of my big loans with that... and I've been ploughing through the decorating since being off - hopefully should be finished that in early Jan (phew!!)

Oh, and I've re-applied for an allotment - wish me luck! I had one before, but with a young one developing health issues, and then the year after having my second little one I didn't have time to be there as I also worked full time up in the city... I'll be going back to full time work again but this time my little ones are 8 and 4 so should have a helper with one and the other can play if not help :) (allotment's definately aren't DH's 'thing' lol)

Looking forward to getting to know everyone again :)

    Shortie xx

Thanks tigerfeet2006, am trying to get back into the Flylady etc swing - the OS ways never left me (though I'm sure they could do with more tweaking, lol!) but I really need to get a 'flow' with the housework before I go back to work.

As for the allotment - I loved it when I had it before and was quite upset when I realised I should really give it up :( I found it was a really good opportunity to switch my brain off, as well as getting fresh air, exercise and fresh veg. There was nothing like my own grown cabbage, sprouts, butternuts squash, potatoes........... I might go down there today to see if anyone from the commitee is there - I gave my form in over a month ago and haven't heard anything (even just to say they have my form). I think there is a waiting list, but it'd be good to know they have my name on the list at least :) xx

  • It took two years on the waiting list to get our 'lottie, so you may have a wait.
