Got a DtD today. Spa Bath pack with SEL £2 scanned at £8 on checkout. Got £12 back with minimum fuss at CS.
You surprise me Jane Cane after reading your post on 17/12:
"This thread is like a 'how to steal and cheat guide' for you average shopper :huh:"
Seem to remember DTD was compared to robbing from the blind as well!!
Sounds like you may have had a change of opinion- you are now converted to the dark side:rotfl:0 -

having just got back from my hols i thought i would try for one of those phone/printer/coffeemaker misprices i have been reading about (better late then never) after almost giving up i saw an out of date SEL on a BT twin phone, i was duty bound to buy two. the kind manager on electricals said she would 'on this occation' refund the difference. Bear with me because this is the interesting bit. Her minion kindly pointed out the DTD policy to which she replied Oh yes you are right! what we will do then is refund you DTD and 'then sell you the items (if you still want them) at the offer price'
you are joking i thought and told her so. i then thought a quick call to CS HQ will put her to rights but to my shock and horror they said she was intepreting the policy correctly. i then got my refund and left which was very unlike me. i then rang CS HQ while in the car, thinking i had previously spoke to a rogue agent only to to be toldthe same,,,,,,,,your thoughts please......
Oh and later on while getting DTD (a few pence) on some spanish rice (charged 93p priced 81p) the CS (not so lovely Linda) called a new CS over and duly 'pointed me out' saying words to the effect of 'watch out for this one' i was so so shocked i called CS HQ ( raising my profile to new highs but hey) to complain. i had to lie down (but could not as i was driving)
ps a big thank you to the regulars on this thread for giving me balls
OK so by the CS logic you describe just suppose you buy a loaf of bread with an sel of £1.00 but are charged £1.20. You ask for DtD which you get (40p) and then CS resell you your own bread for £1.00. You have now paid £1.80 for a loaf of bread advertised at £1.00. How can anyone think that this interpretation is correct?
Yet again they are trying it on and we have to politely and calmly explain how and why their interpretation is flawed.
As for the ignorant behaviour of particular members of staff you can complain but you won't change their minds. I would use another store if its a problem.0 -

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" and I think in this case we might need one :rotfl:
Any chance of some numbers ?
What was the SEL, what were you charged and what was the refund ?
From what you posted (if I understand it correctly) you left without the BT phones but with MORE MONEY than you went in with. Yes ?

So where do they think you got a DTD refund ?
I'd definitely phone HQ again and go back to the store and demand that they give you YOUR phones back.
The reason I thought you left with more money was that you'd got back the SEL price and DOUBLE the overcharge. (And on their deal, assuming you wanted to buy the goods, you'd pay FULL price and NOT the SEL price - otherwise you would have got exactly what you'd originally intended)
eg.
SEL = 50
Paid = 100
Refund = 150
BUT no goods
BUT you are 50 UP on the deal
So IF you can buy the goods at 50 then you just give back the 50 they've given you.
Which is exactly the same as SEL=50 , Paid =100 and get back DTD of 100
So they allow you to buy the goods at 100 (current new price) which means you pay with just 50 of your own dosh, which equates to buying them at the original SEL price, if you see what I mean ?
Perhaps they got confused because of the half price SEL & twice the price overcharge so that DTD was the same as the total amount you had paid - and "forgot" about the other half of the amount you paid (the SEL bit - NOT the overcharge bit) and didn't add that bit to the refund total.
Perhaps you could ask them how their method (of Tesco keeps the goods)works with these examples ...
SEL=100
Paid =120
Do you get 120 refund ? ie Your money back ! (If so what the hell as DTD got to do with it ? And where is ANY compensation ?)
Do you ONLY get 40 ? (That's DTD of the overcharge but what about the other 80 you gave them ?)
Do you get 140 back ? Whch would make sense ... leaves you 20 up on the deal ... but no goods
... although if you then wanted to buy the goods you'd only be able to do so at 120 ????????
OR ....
SEL 100
Paid 400
As per previous example ..
refund 400 .... Just money back ..Where/How DTD or "compensation" ?
or 600 ? Which is DTD (2 x 300 from 400 minus 100)
or (correctly?) 700 .... Your 400 PLUS the 300 overcharge ?
If it's either of these latter 2 then you get a DIRE STRAITS !!!! :rotfl:
MONEY FOR NOTHING !
Best option for goods that you have absolutely no use for whatsoever - because you don't end up with them !!
