Bought a load more this afternoon, think I'm done now :D. Have a total of 20, all same large size so I can stack them together in boxes ready for the loft.
Ok, perhaps a bit hasty in my recommendation. These bags are a bit hit and miss: when they work, they are great BUT around half of those I have used have faulty valves. Worth having a good listen for hissing after you have switched the vacuum cleaner off.

Yesterday I had a DelBoy moment - I knew there was no-one else in the house yet could hear some movement. One of the bags I had compressed at the weekend had come to life and had re-inflated itself!

I had this issue a while ago but when I fully unscrewed the valve I found that it wasn't well put together (pieces out of alignment), but it back together properly & haven't had a problem since. I also find that you sometimes have to go over the end seal a couple of times to make sure its fully shut.

Yes, I've noticed that. I think the large one I've got at the moment has got a hole in it, can hear it hissing from the corner somewhere. The amount of weight it's got in it can't be helping.

This time I've bought two smaller ones to replace the big one and see if distributing the weight helps.

I'm not sure whether they're that economical if a lot of them are faulty, or easily breaking. Do Home Bargains do them? Wonder if theirs are better?

We bought a few of the space type bags but in the end we just used some heavy duty plastic bags, bunched up the end of the bag and stuck the hoover nozzle in. It sucked out all the air and hubby was there with a piece of gaffa tape to tape the end down. It worked a treat!

It worked for all the bedding in our caravan and not one of them leaked. We used some clear bags that we got with some shopping from the garden centre and some of those black sacks that are heavier duty than the cheapest ones. You can't use them again but what the heck, they cost literally pennies!

You could always give it go and see if it works for you.

Has anyone seen any compostable food bags in Poundland?

Yes, I saw some in my local store (Nuneaton) a few days after getting some off ebay
