they gave him a fireman sam sticker book (he's 6, he liked fireman sam about 3 years ago ), a cuddly toy of a guardsman from london (no idea why?), and a "my first" remote control car from elc, again very nice but about 3 years too young for him   apparently thy gave him money as well but daddy kept hold of that :rolleyes:

Oh i see what you mean about not too excitin then !
Seems strange his daddy holding onto the money surely he should have sent the money home with him to you and then he could have spent it seeing he spends more time with you than him. I do hope your boy has a lovely day and you should feel proud of the lovely presents you got him. Keep up the good work.

Presumably it would have been ok if you said to your sister and mum "ooh, and I bought him this brand new, not yet available on general release, cross country train which cost me £120"?

    Bah.
Hi ben ben I agre with Hypno, as I am blessed with inlaws like that!!:o Drives me crazy whith that attitude it must be better because it cost more. When my first two were little I was on my own too and at christmas had nothing so all my pressies were bought fromt the local charity shop and dressed up a bit. We had a wonderful Christmas and my kids at least now know the value of money and save some and spend some of their money.

Im sure the party will be a success and hope you have a wonderful day despite the views of others. :T

BB..... you KNOW DS is going to love those presents and the smile on his face will be real and not because you've spent money, but because you've bought him what he likes and what will make him happy!!!

I agree with Hypno's 1st post.... a child does not need expensive toys etc to make them happy.... what you're doing for him will be much more appreciated.

    Hope the card arrived x

You are the one who spends the most time around your son so you should know what he likes, my mum wants to get my son some roller skates for his 3rd birthday, ones that are for five year olds, I have said it's not a good idea and that he is not into that but do they listen, he is 2 for crying out loud. Lucky for you your son likes things that you can get so cheaply, I wish my children did. I like lavishing gifts though, maybe that's why I have debts, I am trying to have Christmas and my sons birthday for free this year, through doing surveys, quidco etc, and through saving money that isn't part of husbands wages such as child benefit and working tax credit, hopefully I can manage it, I would love to spend it all on the kids but relatives will comment if I don't buy them anything. Hope your son has a good birthday.

Thankyou all for your comments, I'm sure he will love the presents, I asked him what his dad bought him (he always chucks silly money at him to ease his guilt at never being in his life), and he can't remember already! He only got it about 3 hours ago!! He has to leave it at his house though so I've no idea what it was either but am safe in the knowledge it was some piece of platic junk that ds isn't interested in ;):D

Tigz, a card arrived this morning and I didn't recognise the writing so am guessing that could be yours, thankyou :D

BB, you are just too honest. That present list for your son was fantastic.

My family think I spend a fortune on my son and self, we are often in designer gear, little do they know that it's all second hand stuff off ebay, bought for a few pounds ;) . Once we have had good use of it, I sell it again on ebay, often for what I paid for it.

I'm sooooo tight, but only people on MSE know that ........
