Presumably it would have been ok if you said to your sister and mum "ooh, and I bought him this brand new, not yet available on general release, cross country train which cost me £120"?

I don't want my DS spoilt either and I think it's important when you are on your own and have no other children. You are paying off your mortgage which will be of much greater benefit later when DS needs help with funding college/uni or getting his first home or car, putting up with their pish now will help free up the money when it is needed.Mortgage OP 2025 £6200/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

Benben my OH was a trainspotting child and LOVED your list of gifts. He said he would have been made up with that and that a DVD player would have meant nothing to him (not that they had them in his day)!
Was talking to my nephew about it (he's 14). He thought it was brilliant that you'd got all that so cheap because now he can have a party too! Best of both worlds! He just wishes his folks would think that way!Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25
