Yay, my matched bet bustout thanks to Barcelona not winning, so I have made £23 from that one ;):D:D I also got paid for two mystery shops today (£31) but the bank stuff is still a bit haywire so getting that under control is my mission for bank holiday monday

Today has been a low spend day, 1.50 on snacks :o Ds had his first football session tonight, he was pretty clueless compared with most of the others :o but he did enjoy it and thats the main thing.

    Hi Benben,

Long time no speak, see everything's going well....:D

As for ds's football skills, I can't remember how old he is but at that age, they improve their skills in spurts, rather like how they grow. Harry and Ryan have been going to football since March 2006 and, without sounding like I'm boasting, are above average at football despite wearing glasses. However the point of my post is that there were other kids at football training who could barely kick a ball at first who are now some of the best players in the team. If you stick at it, both of you that is, he may easily turn out like that. You have a healthy interest in football (well, Bournemouth anyway) so that should pass down to him.

Another thing that would help him, maybe in a year's time or so, is to take him to real matches. The boys have been going to Yeovil (don't laugh) now for nearly four years and the kids in their team who have improved the most are almost always the kids that go to see proper football...

Sorry for the long post but there's not much I'd consider myself knowledgeable enough to tell you about but kids football is one of them...

    Good luck
    xx

Thank you S/M, I have been thinking about taking him to footie, I think we'll start with a local non-league team (purely from a financial point of view ;)) and progress up to AFCB :D:D

I really hope he does like it, I used to go and watch my brother every week as a kid and I loved it and hope he will too :D

Before the start of the next football season, you may well find even the big clubs do "kids for a quid" at the pre-season friendlies - a really MSE way to see some of the best teams in the world at work! Worth keeping your eyes open for them.......for many years it was the only way I would be able to take DS to a "real" match, although now he has a paper round he has saved up for a full blown season ticket.........!

    hello benben
i ran a kid team here in dublin for eight years ,,
we started out with 10 kids for 7 aside(from 7 yrs),and at 10 yrs increased to 18 kids
of that their was always 1/3 who were not much better than basic skills,,
like all things they need time to develop.
    skills
    confidence
    enthusiasm
    commitment
effort both in training and matches
and the biggest thing that gets them selected and the hardest one for them,,,,
    the ability to listen!!!!
your son may be the worst player ever BUT
but he did enjoy it and thats the main thing.
    ^ ^ ^ MOST IMPORTANT THING ^ ^ ^

Thankyou both, I hope he does remain keen to do it, he needs the exercise as we don't have a garden, and also without his dad around, he does need input from males :o;) They do training on a wednesday then matches on sunday mornings, but he would only be able to do matched every other week because of going to his dads  If he does really get into it I will have a chat with him about sorting something out so ds can play every week, but thats a long way off yet.

Ds is all congested tonight so we missed swimming as its really wet here and he didnt feel up to it. We went to McD's again :o:o for tea (£6), and he played on their softplay bit for 20 minutes, but then some screamy girlies came along and he hated the noise they were making so he wanted to go home :D

I'm hoping he'll settle down tonight and I am going to try and do an online tesco order as they sent me a £7.50 off a £50 order coupon, so I may stock the cupboards up for the month ;)

Shaun makes some good points up there, BB. :T

Yeovil often do "Kids for a Quid" promotions, in fact we have one this Saturday. They're usually pretty well attended too; the last one was Good Friday and resulted in more than 900 kids getting in. Makes a world of difference to the atmosphere too.

Well ds didnt fall asleep till just after 9pm again and I haven't got the tesco order done :o I might try again tomorrow night

I also had a look at a couple of footie websites, and for afcb (this seasons prices so will probably go up before the new season starts) it would be £14 for me and £7 for ds  and for the non-league team it would be £8 for me and £4 for ds. This is still a lot for me especially as he will probably tell me he's bored after 2 minutes and want to go home :o I will def look out for some of those "kid for a quid" type deals ;)

That's a bit dear for League Two football. Yeovil is £6 to sit down for your DS but if someone his age joins Junior Glovers (£16 a year but you get a £5 voucher for club shop), he'd get in for £3.00 per game...:T
