My student finance place has not written back to me yet at all and seems I could be waiting a while, do I HAVE to have that letter to open up an account or not? Also, I dont have a student ID card yet untill I start uni?

If you are refused an overdraft with RBS is it worth trying Natwest as they're part of the RBS group?

Have you recieved anything from your first choice uni?

If you don't midn waiting until next week (after results), UCAS will send you a letter saying blah blah blah you are going to this university please send up the slip below to confirm. You should be able to use this letter.

Thanks! But do I not need to have something to say I can pay my loan into that account? Also, The uni said they will update ucas tomorrow so can I not just print the page off saying unconditional, take my 'conditional' ucas letter thru to say what grades i need and take the certificate I got to prove I have the grades down instead?

If they update the offer to unconditional tomorrow then the letter you need should some shortly after that so you may as well wait until that arrives then you know you have exactly what they want.

Rach, you can open an account with NatWest with a AS3 letter(conditional offer) or AS12(unconditional offer). The overdraft is only available from 16th August 2008(it will decline prior to that date).

    Thankyou Callum and Helix!

Ok, so it's basically not as bigger deal as I thought? ..and I can close my barclays account? Smashing :)
I wouldn't be so hasty in closing the barclays account, especially if you've been with them since you were little. On credit reference files, it looks better if you have held the account for longer when you go to apply for new bank accounts/cards etc.

    Q for natweststaffmember:

I upgraded my NW current account to a student account sometime in March of this year. When will I know if the overdraft will be applied? Does it automatically appear or do I have to do something to trigger it?

To clarify, are you a first year undergrad or second year(sept08). You need to apply for it as it is not automatically upped.
